Zoey turned to watch him out from behind the curtain. The spotlight was off her now, she was done performing. She could relax until the next performance, probably again tomorrow night. She stepped back, returning to the shadows and jumping up to sit on one of the large crates which contained props, costumes, and other assorted helpful things.
Aza waited for her cue, hovering like a shadow in the corner, black cloak still drawn up over her face. Her violet eyes still glinted dangerously.
Asher showed one of the pages of his sketch book to Aza.
Calm down and do your best. I’m cheering you on!! was written in an organized handwriting. Asher smiled behind his mask as he held up the sketch book.
Zoey glanced over at the cloaked figure. Good luck. She mouthed silently, giving her a hesitant smile.
Aza gave them both a nod and pushed her hood back, wincing as the light made contact with her skin. Her pale lavender hair tumbled around her shoulders.
Tempest glanced at the kids. "Well, you guys are like me. I want to help you."
Bay glanced at her, one eyebrow raised. She ignored him, though.
Aquarius turned in his seat to make a remark about the performers to his sister… and stopped. She was gone. So was Bay. Panicking slightly, he nudged Ford awake. "Where are the others?" He asked.
Asher raised a brow.
“Help? How? Exactly?” He asked Tempest quietly enough that the Ringmaster won’t hear him.
Tempest shrugged. "I have a few tricks up my sleeve."
Asher sighed slightly.
“Okay, Madam Interviewer” he friendly said.
Tempest rolled her eyes, which glowed brightly beneath the sunglasses. "Can you all meet me tonight?"
Aza shifted in the corner and tugged on her pale hair, her skin stinging.
“Where?” Asher asked and held his suitcase right beside him.
She considered for a moment. "You know that big tree outside? The one that is a mix of like 20 different types? If you could, that'd be great."
“Right, thank you for offering help ma’am” Asher smiled behind his mask, looking up at her.
"How do we know that you can be trusted?" Sky was hesitant to jump to conclusions, especially when a stranger says they can help when they might not know the problem at hand.
Tempest smiled at her. "You don't." With that, she walked away again.
Aza cocked her head, watching as Tempest walked away. She was pretty sure Asher could be trusted but she kept her mouth shut.
Asher glanced at Tempest then at Skylar.
“It might be worth the risk. Plus, it can’t be as bad as having him in control” he whispered, gesturing at the Ringmaster.
Tempest walked over to her brother, and they started back to their seats.
Aza silently agreed with Asher, listening carefully to their conversation.
Of course we wouldn't know. For all we know, she could be either our ticket out of here, or a ticket to someplace worse. Sky's thoughts weren't positive, nor negative, just cautious.
"We need to be careful. We don't know what we're walking into."
“I guess that’s true. Still, how bad can it really be?” Asher added. He seemed carefree but he was actually very cautious.
Aza finally spoke. "It can be very, very bad," she voiced softly. She shook out her hair a second time and laughed, lavender locks fanning out around her head.
"Or it can be very, very good," Skylar countered, trying to lighten the mood, even if they were known as freaks and outsiders.
"I'm glad you think so optimistically," she chirped sarcastically.
Asher shrugged and sighed.
“Whatever the outcome, I’m going where she told us to meet her” he told them quietly.
(Okay.)
Tempest stood beneath the tree, hidden in the shadows. She listened carefully, all senses on high alert.
Asher looked out the backdoor. He walked out and looked for the tree the lady told him about. He held his suitcase in his left hand, closing the door with his right. His eyes glowed in the dark as they were neon green. Walking to the tree, he doubted that anyone would follow him but shrugged it off. He looked around, making sure no one unwanted followed him.
