From the downstairs, a knock on the door could be heard. “Oh that’s my parents.” Cassian said, “I’ll be right back.” Then he stood up and left.

Lata felt her cheeks begin to burn a bit. This was her soul mate. She was at least glad that he was polite. People without manners really ticked her off.
"Hi," she greeted back awkwardly.

“I do murals. You?”

"I write." She looked up at Morrigan. "Your turn."

She thought for a moment. “That’s cool. I’m going to go with a basic question: how old are you?”

Mila smiled. "19. You?"

“I’m eighteen, so you’re older.” She fiddled with one of her bangles. “Your turn.”

She sipped her coffee but hurriedly set the cup down, sputtering. It was still scalding. "Where are you from?"

“I was born in Toronto but my family moved to the states when I was six. My mom was a mix of Persian background, Chinese background, and Sirian background, and my dad is Scottish-Welsh.” She winced just thinking about her dad. “And you?”

Mila noted the wince but stayed quiet. They'd get to family. "Nice! I was born in Montreal, moved to London England when I was five then Dubai when I was eight, then Australia when I was 14 then to Toronto. My mother was Polish and my dad is French."

“Holy sh*t you’ve been everywhere!”, Morrigan laughed. “Do you speak fluent French or Polish then?”

Mila chuckled. "Fluent French and almost fluent Polish."

“Whoah that’s so cool! I can only speak English.” She laughed ruefully.

Mila shrugged. "My family's big on linguistics. And I could try and teach you. If you want obviously, I mean you don't have to, it's up to you-" She stopped herself.

Morrigan waved it off, trying to ease Mila’s discomfort. “I’d love to! Your turn, I asked about languages.”

Mila nodded. "OK. Favourite movie?"

Morrigan considered this for a moment. “Hmm….. I’m going to have to say Apollo 13.”

"Nice, very nice," Mila agreed. "Mine would have to be… let's see. Rainman, maybe."

“Never watched it, what’s it about?”

"It's a Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. Dustin, as Raymond, is Tom, as Charlie, 's lost autistic brother, and it's about their growing relationship and Raymond dealing with his autism. It's great."

“Huh, That sounds really cool! I bet you don’t really see a lot of movies like that. Are you in college or university?”

"Uni. It's down near Dufferin," she told Morrigan.
