I don't think age of protag really matters all that much. You could have a character like Harry who was 14 when people starting dropping dead in front of him (RIP Cedric) and things started getting dark in the series. I think it should deal more with situations and the general themes of the novel.
Yeah. To Kill a Mockingbird.
Oh boy… That book has some strange memories attached to it….
Am I forgetting something?
I meant for the protag's age comment, I haven't read To Kill A Mockingjaybird yet.
What?
We read it at the beginning of the year, and my English teacher is completely obsessed with it and Harper Lee and she shared a bunch of stories that made her seem really creepy. I also just thought it was a weird book
According to Harper Lee's second book, Go Set a Watchman, Atticus Finch is actually SUPER racist and only took up the case because he thought there was a miscarriage of justice! He never cared about the defendant at all, apparently!
I like Veronica Roth's twist on the plain Jane trope. Like, Tris knows she's plain, and so does Tobias, and he doesn't try to convince her otherwise. If you have to have a plain Jane, this is how to do it. bye now
Yeah, but Tris still whines about her appearance. A lot.
That's because Tris is just a whiny little bitch. But yeah, I didn't even like her, it was just the best example. MAKE YOUR CHARACTERS NOT GIVE A SHIT PLEASE. WE HAVE ENOUGH CHARACTERS THAT HATE THE WAY THEY LOOK BUT DON'T MAKE THEM COMPLAIN ALL THE TIME (cough cough, starts a list of characters and gives up because the list is too long)
Tris is not the best example, sorry. There are just no good ones. I want a Tris that doesn't think about her appearance constantly
Katniss is a better example, she realizes that since she's in a fight to the death and living in a dystopia that her looks don't matter, and the only time she really mentions them is when she's describing other people ('Gale has the same black hair and olive skin as others from the Seam', etc.) or mentioning how her prep team is shaving, styling, and painting her.
Sassy straight boys
Why is it that sassy guys are always gay bin books? I have straight guy friends that are sassy and snarky I need this in books too
Is that a hole that needs to be filled? Clearly you have not met Keefe Sencen.
I have sassy guys who aren't gay, but none of them are straight. None of my characters are straight.
Can't Aces be straight (or gay for that matter)?
None of them are straight. None of them are heteroromantic heterosexuals.
But that's one series I need them EVERYWHERE
Dmitry
Harry 'No Need To Call Me Sir, Professor' Potter
Sage/Prince Jaron
points to the stacks of books with straight guys with no personality or are overshone by their gay counterpart
Carswell Thorne (but tbh there's like no way he's straight)
Prince Kai
My favorite new trope is being surprised when characters AREN'T gay.
Is that a hole that needs to be filled? Clearly you have not met Keefe Sencen.
wait…he isn't gay?
LOL. No of course not. He's been wanting to b with Sophie since book one.
100% There needs to be more Book Harrys.
movie Harrys are a SHAM
