So I said good morning to my teacher in Japanese and he said, "Indiana." so now he calls me that and I have no idea why.

So true. Consider "Oiseaux" (pronounced 'Wazo'). It mean birds and it has every vowel in the French Alphabet and none of the letters are pronounced right.
