(Well… Sorry, guys!)

[TIME SKIP: FIVE YEARS]

After William and Amber had broken up, they both went to their separate ways. Amber moved out of the dorm not long after, and the vacant space in the dorm was enough to cause William to sink even lower.

He missed her. The dorm no longer felt like a home. It felt… like he was at a stranger’s place. Sometimes he would find himself in Amber’s room—former room, and only when he slept there did he sleep peacefully. It reminded him of her. Of her warmth, her too lovable self.

After a few weeks of moping, William decided it was pointless. Why should he be doing that? If he wanted Amber back, why shouldn’t he get his anger in control? So that’s what he did. He got into therapy. He listened to his therapist, he did what was expected of him. He listened to the advice, he talked about his trauma. It wasn’t easy. He’d thrown several fits, nearly gotten himself into trouble again, but he was getting there.

Finally, four years later, William passed. He managed to take control. He managed to solve his anger. He stopped raging, he stopped the once unstoppable problem.

He didn’t find Amber. And God did he think about her every day. He never bothered to move on. His heart was hers and there was nothing he could ever do to get it back. And he missed her. So damn much. Nothing could keep him from thinking about her, and it was her that made him determined to get better. He kept dreaming about her, and sometimes he would wake up thinking he was in her arms. And then he would remain devastated the entire day. He could still remember her touch, and especially the feeling of her lips on his. No matter how many years had passed since they last kissed, he could never forget that feeling.

William stepped out of a bakery, mind still on his ex-girlfriend that he didn’t see someone else entering until he bumped into them.

His heart nearly stopped in his chest.

The breakup was hard on Amber. This was the first person she had fallen in love with, and he decided to break her heart by leaving her. Even though he knew what she had been through. Did he know how much it hurt? How much pain she had to go through this time? This wasn't just some little fling this time. And it was nothing like what she had had with Jace. No. No, this was completely and entirely different. This time, she had fallen in love. She might not have been able to tell him while they were dating, but she regretted that now. So much… If she had said she loved him, would they still be together? Would he really have left her? Would she have to be going through this pain right now?

But it didn't matter. It was in the past, and she needed to get back to the future. She had a degree to get, a career to make for herself. She couldn't just stop living now. Not when she had so many things that she needed to do. She was a finisher, and finishers finished things. So that's what she would do.

She grew up, made friends, tried to move on. It was hard, yes, but she still did it. Even though she still slept with William's basketball jacket (though it no longer smelled of him), she still went on dates. Date after date after date. But none of them turned out. None of them were right. And she slowly began to realize why…..

None of them were her Will.

So she stopped going on dates after her second year of college and focused entirely on getting her music degree. And, when she graduated with it two years after that, she already had an apprenticeship with a local recording studio. She often ran errands for them, picking up coffee and scones and such in the morning. She didn't mind it, really. She was just happy to be there and be paid.

So that's what she was doing the day she bumped into and all-too-familiar chest. She was trying to get scones and coffee for breakfast, and she was checking the list as she walked, so she didn't see the person in front of her until…

"Oh my gosh, I'm so—" she brought her gaze up to his face, and her eyes immediately widened in surprise. A strand of her naturally light blonde hair fell in front of her face, and she reached up to push it back. Still in shock, she breathed, "Will…"

William’s eyes widened. His body went stiff, turning hot. His heart began to hammer wildly in his chest because oh my God. Amber.

Though she had grown, and changed her hairstyle with her hair now blonde, William could recognize her anywhere. There was never going to be a time he could forget her.
Was this a dream? Was he truly seeing the woman he loved? It had to be a dream. He had searched for her and came up with nothing, and then bumping into her? It didn’t seem real. It seemed too good to be true. William wanted to touch her to see if he wasn’t just imagining it.

Maybe he was mistaken. Maybe it was someone else and he was thinking it was Amber. But it couldn’t be someone else. William knew those eyes. Those eyes that haunted him in his dreams. Those lips he dreamed of tasting again. They were real. She was real.

“Blue…” he breathed, swallowing thickly. She was here. He’d found her. And she was okay. God, she was okay.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Amber couldn’t believe it. She just couldn’t. After all these years, she had tried to move on from him. After all these years, she hadn’t even been thinking about him since the day before. And that was an improvement for her. And after all these years, the man who still haunted her dreams was right here. He was in front of her. And he looked so shocked to see her, as if she was a ghost…

She didn’t know if that was good or not. Had he forgotten her? Hadn’t he promised he wouldn’t? But it had been four years… She shouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t—

“Blue…”

His whispered voice brought her back to the present. She blinked up at him, closing her mouth that had fallen open in shock.

“William Jones,” she murmured, shaking her head slowly. “You are the last person I thought I would see today…”

God, he wanted to touch her. He wanted to pull her close to him and never let go. He wanted to kiss her breathless—he wanted so much, but he couldn’t get what he desired.

His eyes raked her from head to toe. She looked healthy. She looked perfectly okay. No signs of drinking. She had done it. He knew she could. He had believed in her, and she didn’t let him down.

“William Jones…” she shook her head. “You are the last person I thought I would see today…”

Was she disappointed to see him? His jaw clenched. So it was only him who had been hopelessly in love with her, even after all of these years? And the fact that she was going to this bakery… was she on a date? The thought of her with another male sent anger flooding through him, but he silenced it.

“Are you disappointed?” He asked her softly, crossing his arms over his chest so he wouldn’t pull her into his arms. “To see me, Blue?”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

His jaw clenched. She saw a flicker of anger cross his features. But he didn’t act on it. It was quickly gone. Had… Had he really done it? Had he really gotten a hold of his anger? She wished it was true, but… was it just too good to be?

“Are you disappointed? To see me, Blue?” he’d asked, almost looking hurt behind his stormy eyes. Those stormy eyes that she loved so much… They lingered in her dreams, in her mind. Day after day, night after night, she still saw him. Even after all these years…

Amber shook her head vehemently. “No. No, Will. Gosh, no. Why would I be disappointed? I— Gosh, Will…” she sighed, tearing her hand through her shoulder-length hair. “I don’t think I would ever be disappointed to see you.”

Relief coursed through him, so intense it nearly made his knees buckle. She wasn’t disappointed. She said she would never be disappointed to see him. Oh God. It was getting harder and harder not to be close to her. Her scent was driving him crazy. The look in her eyes burned him.

“I’m glad,” he finally breathed, his eyes softening. Then he looked around in discomfort, not knowing how to phrase his next words. “Are you—are you here on a…?”

He couldn’t say it. He really couldn’t.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

The second she said that, the look in his eyes changed dramatically. He went from pained to almost… hungry? Four years later, and he still wanted her that badly? Really?

Gosh, that look was enough to make her breath catch, though. She quickly leveled out her breathing, even if she could feel a burning in her chest. He wanted her, even after all this time… But he wasn’t the only one.

“…on a…” he didn’t finish, and she furrowed her eyebrows. What did that— Oh. Oh, oh no… He thought— Oh.

“No! No, no. I’m not— No. I’m here for work. Picking up food,” Amber said quickly, showing him the list in her hand.

The relief William felt at that moment… it was indescribable. Though he should be feeling like an idiot for being relieved over that, he wasn’t. He was happy. Did that mean she was still single? He could have a chance to get her back?

Because God did he want to. And he knew that even if she was in a relationship, he would have still worked to get her back.

“You look well,” he finally said, never removing his eyes from her. Could she see the intense hunger he felt for her? Did she realize that instead of it going down, it kept increasing? That the only difference from years ago was that he only loved her more? “I’m really glad to see that, Blue.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Amber nodded slowly, finally allowing her eyes to drift over him. She looked him up and down slowly, chewing on her lip subconsciously. Gosh, he still looked good… Maybe better, even, after these past few years. How was that even possible? How could she still be so in love with someone she hadn’t seen in so long?

She brought her gaze back up to his eyes finally, only to find the hunger in them stronger than before. Her breath caught in her throat again, and she could feel her cheeks burning. He still looked at her like she was the only person in the world…

“Yeah… Yeah, I’m good. You— You look good, too, Will,” she breathed, nodding slowly. So good…

Blushing. She was blushing. He still had that effect on her. It was still there. Did that mean she wanted him just as much, or was it the awkwardness that came along with running into her ex?

“You changed your hair color,” William noted, trying to ignore the way she was chewing on her lip. Was she doing that on purpose? She knew just how mad it drove him. “It suits you.”

More than you know.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Amber shrugged, pulling a strand from behind her ear to twist it around her finger. “Yeah… This is my natural color. I— I couldn’t keep the blue anymore after…” she coughed softly, running her finger through her hair again. “Anyway, thank you. I guess, uh, that you won’t be able to call me Blue anymore, huh?”

Deleted user

“I’ll still call you Blue,” William found himself saying gently, remembering the feeling of running his hands through her hair. He wanted to do it again. “You’ll always be Blue to me.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Amber blinked up at him, opening her mouth to say something but closing it soon after when she realized she had nothing to say. What could she say to that? She wanted nothing less than to still be his… To be his Blue…

“How— how have you been, Will?” she asked softly, her hands itching to reach out and take his. She couldn’t. Not yet. She had to know one thing first…

“I got over it,” he said to her, his eyes softening, though there was still a raging storm brewing in them. If he opened his arms, would she sink into his embrace? Or would she step away from him? “The anger. And the trauma. I—I looked for you, Blue. I couldn’t find you.”
