He nodded, chewing on his bottom lip 'cause he had no clue what to say or do.

"I'm sorry," she said again. "But I'll never forget her. I'm sorry."
He let out a sigh, letting his head hang. "I know."
She got up, taking his hands in hers. "But I love you. That won't change either. Hasn't and never will." She searched his eyes. "I promise," she added softly.
He looked up at her for a moment before letting his eyes fall back down to his lap.
She tilted his head up to make him look at her. "Runner. Would last night have happened, or any of those times for that matter, if I didn't love you? Would I suck up my pride and go to a a family reunion I didn't have plans of going to if I didn't? Would I have spilled the darkest parts of my past if I didn't love you?"
"Maybe it's little difficult for me to understand," he admitted, "but I don't doubt that you love me, Tess. I just have to get over my own insecurities, I guess."
He wished he felt the way he spoke.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her face against the crook if the neck. She was able to do this as she was standing while he was sitting in the bed. "What don't you understand?" She asked gently, ready to provide clarification if needed.
"I just…can't imagine loving someone while in love with another." The statement confused himself even more, but he still returned the hug weakly.
She bit her lip as she thought of a way to explain it. "I considered Tori my first. My first real relationship, my first time choosing and wanting to… You know. The first person to look past the monster and see me. The first person I've ever fallen in love with. And that was ripped away from me, but she still has a piece of my heart. I love her as someone I lost long ago. A bittersweet memory. This is going to sound really mean and it's a bad comparison, but it's all I got. It's like she's my first pet dog that died before getting you. I'll still love her, but I'll still love you as well."
She sighed. "That doesn't help, does it?"
"It did a little," he mumbled, setting his chin on her shoulder. His body seemed to relax little by little the more she talked.
She played with his hair. "Well, at least I don't totally suck at explaining my feelings." She sighed again. "Runner, I've been trying really fucking hard to get over her. I mean, she's gone and it's not like I can just summon her ghost and date that. That's just sad. But then you came along and I've barely even thought about her. Her death is painful still, yes, but I'm no longer hooked, y'know?"
"And is that a good thing?" he asked.
She gently grabbed his face and rested her forehead against his. "Very. You've thrown me a huge reality check and helped me get over her. You're all I think about, one way or another. Nothing'll change that."
"I'm sorry about having to go," he said quietly. "I wish I didn't have to."
"It's your life. Don't feel bad about going out and doing what you feel is right. I personally need to learn how to keep my claws off you." She chuckled. "I'll go through Cinthia's contacts and see who'll be willing and powerful enough to back up your quest. Maybe some demons to help you control that side of you."
"How long do you think it'll be?" he asked.
"As long as it takes." She was aware of the unpredictability of situations like this. She couldn't give him an exact timeframe.
"God, I hope it's not long," he mumbled.
She chuckled and pecked his lips. "You'll be plenty busy. It'll fly by faster than you think. The Nazek country is beautiful, and the different kingdoms are really interesting. It's just the capital that sucks ass."
"But I don't want any of that. I wanna hang out with you," he said, smiling slightly.
She smiled back. "Seems we're both clingy. But I'm not wanted. I was exiled too, by order of the Empress. I can't step foot into any territory claimed by the Nazeks, even if some of the kingdoms don't agree with her ruling."
"I'm still scared about the whole thing," he admitted, "even if I'm getting trained."
She kissed him lightly. "I'd be worried if you weren't."
"Do you think I can do it?" he asked, tilting his head.
"I think if you apply yourself for once and believe you can do it, you'll kick his ass with no problem. Pro tip: He hates hellfire when it's being used against him, even though he loves torturing others with it."
"That's a bit of a stretch," he said with a smile.
She grinned. "It's what I'm here for. Exaggerated moral support so you'll do exceptionally well."
His smile grew. "I love you so much."
"Mmm. I think I'll need more convincing than that. I just went on a rant proving to you that I love you, so you'll have to step up your game," she joked with a pretty good poker face.
