"I just need something to give me confidence to stand up to them… do you think being a medicine cat will help with that?"
"I just need something to give me confidence to stand up to them… do you think being a medicine cat will help with that?"
"If you want that, do it, but don't take it on to prove yourself."
"I know, I really do want to be a medicine cat. I think it would help me with confidence issues as well though. I would never make that my main reason for making a huge decision."
"Yeah, but don't feel pressured. You do you."
Finchkit smiled. "Thanks. How did you feel before you were about to become an apprentice?"
"Excited, a little sick, but happy afterwards."
"Yeah, sounds about right. I'm super anxious, but also really excited. I didn't even know those emotions could work together."
"They can, trust me."
"I think I've discovered that." Finchkit laughed. "It's going to be strange, changing my name. It'll take a while to get used to it."
"Not really, let's practice. Hello, Finchpaw, how's your new mentor acting? Are they nice?"
"Silverbrook is doing very well, thank you, Oakfur. I am learning a lot as a medicine cat apprentice. It feels a bit strange at first, but I think I'll be used to hearing it after about half a moon or so."
"Well, that's lovely, Finchpaw!" she said in a slightly prissy voice, to lighten the mood.
Finchkit giggled a bit. "Yes, I'll be sure to get you some borage soon for your kits."
"Thank you, Finchpaw!" she said. "How was that, not so bad being called Finchpaw, is it?"
"Not bad, I'd learn to just think of it as my name pretty fast. Like, being named Finchkit, it was just a fact."
"But your warrior name will be different, Finchkit. People will know you by that name, it will be yours to treasure forever."
"True. What do you think my warrior name will be, Oakfur?"
"I dunno, Finchkit. It depends."
"What does it depend on?" Finchkit cocked her head to the side. "Deeds? Appearance? Personality? Job?"
"No, heart."
"Heart?"
"Spirit. Who you are."
"But, some other things factor in too, right? I mean, your suffix is 'fur', does that have something to do with your spirit?"
"I mean, well, it is a piece of you."
"True… I've noticed that some suffixes go well with the first part of a cat's name. Like Birdsong, or Stormcloud."
"Yeah. Well, the freshkill pile awaits! Mouse?" she offered.
"Oh! Um, sure. Thank you." Finchkit accepted a small mouse and began to eat it.
Oakfur took a small rabbit leg and chewed. It was delicious.
"Are you sure you don't need more food, Oakfur? You know, for the kits."
"It's fine. I know that there are some hungry patrols coming soon, we always put the clan first."
