Sorry this was late! The character in my pfp is the rival from the Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver games! Canonically, he doesn't have a solid name but the fandom has decided to call him Silver(unless we're talking Pokemon Special/Pokemon Adventures, then he's canonically named Silver). Favorite character in the Pokemon canon!

Okay so I will admit, he's kind of a dirtbag in the beginning(talking games here), and sees Pokemon as really only good for battling. As the game progresses, though, he gradually realizes that he keeps losing and maybe he's doing something wrong? The big point that makes him REALLY step back and look at his way of doing things is when he tries to fight Lance(aka the Champion aka the strongest Pokemon Trainer in the region) and loses. Lance tells him that he needs to, y'know, not be such a douche to his Pokemon. Character development commences and he winds up being not the greatest guy, but definitely a lot nicer than he was before. A huge indicator of this is that his Golbat has evolved into Crobat, which doesn't happen unless you have the max friendship stat on it and that in itself says a LOT. Another thing is that he never had his Pokemon out of its Pokeball before(one of my favorite parts of playing the games) and before and after that fight HE DOES. Small thing, but to me it's pretty important.

I could also go on about Adventures Silver but I know there's more that happens with him later on and I'm not at that part so yeah.
