Amber chuckled again. “That’s sweet, though. I mean, definitely embarrassing for a boy that age, but she loves you so it’s sweet.”
Amber chuckled again. “That’s sweet, though. I mean, definitely embarrassing for a boy that age, but she loves you so it’s sweet.”
William sighed. “I suppose… what about you, Blue?”
"Oh… Uh…" Amber coughed, burying her face in his chest again to hide her quickly reddening cheeks. When she spoke, her vice was muffled by his shirt, enough that it was barely even comprehensible.
"Oh?" William quirked an eyebrow at her reaction, amusement dancing on his features. "Do tell me, Blue."
Amber made a strangled sound in her throat, pulling the lower half of her face away from his chest slightly. "Walking in on you in the shower…" she finally mumbled.
William grinned wickedly.
"Oh, you had gotten quite the show," he winked at her. "Have you truly seen better, Blue?"
Amber groaned and rolled around in his arms so she was no longer facing him. She buried her face in her hands, thoroughly embarrassed. "I hate you…"
William laughed, wrapping his arms around her stomach and kissing the back of her neck. Oh, she was just so adorable!
"You know you love me~" he crooned before he halted. Shit.
Amber blew a slow breath between her lips when he kissed her. At his words, though, she paused, unsure of how to respond. She knew he was just jesting with her, but… Did she love him? Or was it something different?
Maybe it was love that she had for him, but, if it was, she wasn't ready to say it yet. She'd learned not to say that too early in a relationship…
William continued as if he hadn't said anything, though he felt the disappointment. He had hoped she would say yes, but he knew she didn't feel the same way.
"What are your fears?" he questioned instead. "Phobias?"
Amber bit her lip at the question. She hated admitting this to anyone, but… this was Will. She could, would, and now did tell him everything.
"I'm scared of… of being alone the rest of my life," she admitted in a whisper, her eyes clenched shut tight. "I'm scared that, even if I'm in a relationship, that they'll leave me and I'll grow old by myself. I want to have a lasting love like my parents do…"
"Why would anyone like you ever be alone?" William found himself murmuring, wrapping his arms around her tighter. He wished he could tell her how much he loved her, that he wouldn't leave her. "There's no one who wouldn't love you. But Blue, in your quest of finding a wonderful relationship, do not let in a terrible person."
Let me in. Keep me with you,
Amber let out a shaky breath and leaned back into his chest. "Thank you, Will… I— I don't think I'm letting in a bad person. He seems pretty great to me," she murmured quietly.
He seems pretty great to me. Was she talking about him? William couldn't help but think so.
"I… care a lot about you," he found himself saying. "But I'm… worried about hurting you.:
Amber frowned slightly at his words and turned to face him again. She rested her hand on his cheek, looking at him softly.
"You won't hurt me… I trust you, William," she whispered gently.
He pressed their foreheads together, hand cupping hers.
"That's what's worrying," he admitted. "You trusting me. That's foreign to me. This is foreign to me."
"Then we'll take it slow, maybe slower than we have been. Just as slow as we need to," Amber breathed, reassuring him. She rubbed gentle circles into his cheek with her thumb, pressing a gentle kiss to his nose.
William closed his eyes, leaning into her touch.
"You know, I should be the one saying that to you," he murmured, pressing a kiss to her palm. "Because I want you, Blue, and I don't want you to feel like you have any sorts of obligations to me."
"I don't feel like I do. You know my boundaries, anyway. But I want to know what your are," Amber murmured softly, her soft gaze traveling over his face.
"When it comes to you, I don't think I have any," William responded, feeling her eyes on him.
Amber blinked, both unshaken and a little surprised. He had no boundaries for her… He was just waiting for her.
Normally, that thought would have made her feel guilty. When William said it, though, she didn't feel guilty. In fact, she felt rather pleased. She'd picked a good man if he was willing to wait for her before going any further, no matter how much he wanted her.
"You're really something, aren't you? she breathed, leaning forward slightly to brush their noses together.
William finally opened his eyes to look at his girlfriend, having her so close. He smiled, reaching out to lightly caress her cheek. He wasn't joking when he said he had no boundaries. He was willing to wait no matter how long it took. For Amber… he knew he would be able to do it.
"Aren't I?" he grinned cheekily, his eyes dazed. "I gotta keep you on your toes. Otherwise, you'd tire easily."
Amber rolled her eyes but leaned into his hand, anyway. "I think we both keep each other on our toes pretty well."
“Well, you’re not wrong,” William chuckled. “I like it.”
“Mmhm. It’s certainly interesting to see how everything plays out. I like it, too.” Amber chuckled softly.
"I like that, too," William said, laying down on his back and pulling her close.
Amber sighed and rested her head on his chest. “I think I’ll sleep now… Goodnight, William.”
"Goodnight, Blue," William pressed a kiss to the top of her head as her breathing evened out. William stayed awake for a while, but eventually he, too, fell asleep.
[TIME SKIP:]
William sighed heavily. He hadn’t seen his parents in a while, and the last time he did… they had fought. He had quit his therapy sessions and it didn’t sit well with then, so they tried to talk to him. He ended up snapping.
“We’re almost there,” William muttered, mostly to himself than to Amber. “Ten more minutes.”
Amber looked over at him with a small smile, turning from the window she was looking out of. “Great! I can’t wait to meet them… I hope they’ll like me…”
