Amber sucked a surprised breath in through her nose, feeling heat rising to her heels. She raised her eyebrows and placed her hand flat against his chest.
"Noted," she murmured before gently pushing him away, the teasing grin back on her face. "Now come on. We've got lunch to grab."
William chuckled, stepping back but linking their fingers together, leading her outside.
“Where do you want to go for burgers, Blue?” William questioned just as they exited the dorm and he began to lock it.
"Daisy's Diner," Amber answered immediately. "It's just a few blocks down the road from campus."
William nodded before they walked to his car, which he unlocked and they sat inside. He brought the engine to life and drove to Daisy’s Diner.
“Well, when I said it was snowing, I didn’t think it would be this much…” William muttered.
Amber crinkled her nose in distaste as she looked out the window. "Snow is beautiful, but it's such a pain to deal with… I love having white Christmases, but it's already last that. We don't need anymore snow."
“I’d have to agree,” William nodded, slowing down the car in case the tires slipped. “A little is enough, but not when you’re buried in it.”
"Then it's too much," Amber declared, glancing back over at William. "I'm glad you're the one driving. I hate driving in weather like this."
“Well, I’m not glad I’m the one driving,” William said with a sigh. “I have to keep my eyes on the road. It’s not as interesting as the woman sitting on the other seat.”
Amber smiled, a small chuckle escaping her lips. "Thank you. I do try to be interesting for you. Hence the dress."
William snorted.
“You’re trying to be more of a pain,” he corrected her. “The dress is just another method.”
"But you're interested in me, are you not?" Amber chuckled, shifting so she was facing him more.
“Extremely,” William answered without hesitation. “I’m interested in your pain of a self.”
Amber's grin grew slightly. "Then I seem to have done my job. Oh, there's the diner! Turn right."
William shook his head before taking a right, finding an empty spot and parking his car.
“There we go,” he muttered before unbuckling the seatbelt and stepping out of the car.
Amber slid out of the car and walked over to William’s side. She smiled up at him, offering him her hand. “Ready for lunch?”
William took her smaller one in his own, caressing it gently before he gave it a squeeze. God, even her hand was soft and adorable.
“Of course,” William snorted, pulling her closer as they began walking into the diner. “Do you just want a burger, or fries along with it?”
“I want a burger and fries and a chocolate milkshake,” Amber declared with a light laugh. “The works.”
“Which burger is it?” William chuckled at her enthusiasm as they took their seats. “Chicken, beef, fish? Cheese or no cheese?”
“Beef… With cheese,” Amber decided, sitting across from William and crossing one leg over the other. “What about you?”
“I prefer chicken with cheese,” William scrunched his nose. Just then, a waiter came by and William relayed their order—a beef burger with extra cheese and fries, a chicken burger with cheese, chocolate milkshake and coke.
When the waiter left, William turned his eyes towards Amber.
“Yes, dear?” Amber asked with a grin, leaning forward onto her elbows.
“Nothing,” William murmured. “I’m just admiring the view.”
Amber blinked slowly, her grin softening into a small smile. “Mm… I think my view is better…”
William returned her smile with his smirk. “Is it, though? I don’t exactly doubt it, but between you and me, mine is much better.”
Amber looked thoughtful for a moment before shrugging and smirking back at him. “You’re right, it is.”
“So modest,” William teased, reaching out to pinch her nose. “I knew I liked you for a reason.”
“Hey!” Amber exclaimed with a laugh, swatting his hand away from her nose. “Of course you like me. How could you not?”
“Well, you do kiss very well,” William drawled. “And you are quite irresistible, so… I’d say I can’t not like you.”
Amber’s smile widened a bit, even through the light blush coating her cheeks. “Well, I could say the same for you, hun. In fact, I have said much the same thing.”
“I’m pleased to hear that,” William offered her a wink as he reached for her hand, rubbing gentle circles with his thumb. “Tell me more about yourself. Anything.”
