William breathed in deeply, setting bread in its usual place. Both of them were using each other to relieve pain and heartache, and that would only end up creating more. Yet they still wouldn’t back down.

“Are we done?” He asked her softly, not looking at her.

Amber hummed and stuck a carton of eggs in the fridge.

“Yeah, that was the last of it…” she sighed, straightening up. She leaned back against the refrigerator and looked past him, still unable to actually look at him. “I think I’m going to watch something on Netflix. You can join me if you’d like.”

William rubbed the back of his neck, contemplating her question. He noticed she hadn’t been looking at him, which didn’t seem to confuse him. He was glad, too, that she wasn’t.

“What are you going to watch?” He questioned, though he had no reasons to stay. Unless, of course, he wanted to kiss her. Which he did, hence why he was leaving.

“Okay,” William hummed, nodding. “I’m going out. To practice.”

“I’ll be late,” he informed her, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

Disappointment filled William at her offhanded comment, but he didn’t let it bother it too much. Grunting in reply, he walked out the door, remembering to grab his basketball on the way out.

He didn’t realize how awkward and tense things were until he walked out into fresh air.

Amber let out a heavy sigh when William stepped out of the room. She reached up and brushed her fingers across her still-tingling lips. Gosh, it was hard to keep her composure around him… It was good he had left, but she supposed he didn’t actually have to leave the dorm. He could have just gone to his room, maybe.

[TIME SKIP: December 20, Thursday]

William was on the couch, working on his homework. Amber was… well, he didn’t know. She had been a mess and he didn’t know what to make of her. She would come home drunk and they’d kiss, although he’d stop her before things got out of control. Wherever she was, he hoped she wasn’t drinking. It wasn’t good for her.

William sighed once he realized he’d been staring at the same problem for a while.

Since it was winter break, Amber was spending a lot time recently at parties. She’d go to one, drink until she could hardly see straight, and then come home to William all drunk and bubbly. She was usually a happy, giggly drunk, but there were times she was just a depressed girl full of crying and sadness. Tonight was one of those nights.

She stepped into the dorm with red eyes and tear-stained cheeks. Her lower lip trembled as she closed the door behind herself, sinking to the floor with her back against the wall.

The door opened and William immediately stood up, walking over to the door to see Amber on the floor, back against the wall.

“Blue?” He called out to her, concern lacing his voice. “Are you okay?”

He was asking that question a lot these days, wasn’t he? Why was he getting worried, anyway?

William quirked an eyebrow. He was the only good thing? She was glad he was here? He shook his head, bending down next to her, and pulled her into him.

“You drank again,” he murmured. “Why? Why are you doing this to yourself, Blue?”

Amber sank into his arms and basically went limp. “I dunno. It used to be fun, but now ‘s to lose myself I think… The real world’s mean. This world’s fun. Imean not now… Now it’s sad. I don’t like it’sad,” she slurred.

William sighed heavily. What was he supposed to do with this girl crying? He was never good with crying girls, much less with Amber.

“You’re going to be fine,” he murmured. “I’ll stay with you tonight, but we’ll talk when you’re sober, okay?”

William glanced down at her dress before he sighed.

“Okay, you go change,” he patted her on the head. “I’ll wait.”

“I might need help… I don’t think I can move my fingers,” Amber mumbled, lifting a hand and wriggling her fingers. Her eyes widened and she giggled. “I can!”

William sighed in exasperation before he stood up, pulling her along with him.

“Go on, then,” he said to her. “Go and change into appropriate clothing.

“It means,” William shifted until he was in front of her, but still holding on to her. “That you better not be half-naked when you come out, like last time.”

Deleted user

“I might take advatange of you if you do that,” William quirked an eyebrow, though he didn’t know if that would help or not. “So do come out fully dressed.”

Amber crinkled her nose and stuck her tongue or at him childishly. "Fine, party pooper," she huffed before moving to step around him. She stumbled a little, nearly falling, but caught herself before she could.

William watched her leave in amusement, though it was quickly replaced by worry. Since when had he begun to act like this with her? Concerned, gentle, soft? He didn’t understand. What was wrong with him?
