William gave her a look before going back to eating his own ice cream. It pissed him off. It wasn’t the first time he had been told that, but it never failed to set him off.

“Whatever,” he muttered. “You want to stay in here, or leave?”

"I don't want to go back yet… I'll just end up drowning myself in tears if I'm left alone," Amber mumbled, refusing to meet his eye. "Better to be in public where I refuse to break down crying."

William looked down at her before he sighed. Where was he even going with this? This girl… this girl was truly an annoyance, but what was more annoying was the fact that he didn’t mind it.

“Come,” he motioned to her. “Let’s walk.”

Amber looked up at William and raised her eyebrows. She looked pointedly down at her ice cream, then outside, and then back to her roommate.

"It's freezing cold outside and we're eating ice cream… Does that really seem like a good combination?" she questioned him.

William stared her down, refusing to break eye contact.

“It does, actually,” he responded, eating another mouthful. “But if you aren’t willing, that’s fine. Let’s sit.”

Amber rolled her eyes with a soft huff. Stepping around him, she made her way to a table, where she promptly sat down and crossed her legs.

“Do you like the cold then?” she asked, referring to his earlier comment.

William followed after her, sitting down but cursing when his legs didn’t fit under the table. Sometimes, his height was plain annoying. He pushed the chair back a little and leaned back instead.

“Why?” He gave her a look. What would she get after knowing that?

William opened his mouth to respond when he paused, a snort escaping his lips. He reached up to point at his cheek.

“Ice cream,” he said to her in amusement.

William cocked his head to the side, pointing to his left cheek. He tapped the spot right next to his nose for her. “Right there.”

Amber wiped at the spot she thought he was showing her, but nothing came off when she looked at her fingers. She looked up at William again and cocked her head to the side slightly.

William rolled his eyes, snorting again.

“Right, don’t even think about it,” he said, taking a spoonful of his ice cream. “I’m not even going to bother.”

William picked up his spoon and wasn’t about to take another bite when a voice interrupted him.

“You know, as her boyfriend, you could have helped,” the girl said rather obnoxiously. William’s eyes lifted up to glare at the girl, narrowing his eyes. She continued without noticing. “It was very rude of you to not do anything other than point it out.”

“We’re not dating,” William all but snarled, staring the girl down. She looked like she was twelve, but whatever her age was, what was her problem? God, couldn’t people mind their own business? Even if Amber was his girlfriend, what was it to her? He could do whatever he wanted. It wasn’t as if he’d hit her.

“Oh,” the girl murmured. “What a shame. You would have looked cute together. It could have been one of those ‘good girl and bad boy’ romances.”

William’s jaw clenched. Good girl? He almost laughed.

Amber simply stared at the girl in shock for a moment. What in the world…?

“Uh-huh…” she hummed awkwardly, her eyebrows furrowing. “Yeah, that’s, uh, that’s an interesting theory.”

“Well,” the girl checked her nails, seemingly nonchalant. “I do hope your ship sails. Next time, do remember to take advantage of a romantic moment. Have a good day!”

William stared after her as she walked away, surprise present on his features. It felt like a rush of icy water to extinguish the growing flames inside of him.

What. In. The. World?

“How interesting,” William blinked owlishly, removing his eyes from the girl and back to Amber. “Your ice cream is dripping, Blue.”

Looking at Amber, sitting here and eating ice cream, William grew lost in his thoughts. What was he even doing? This moment, he wished he could have spent with Caroline. He knew it was impossible—he knew it could never happen, but he still couldn’t help but wish it had been Caroline.

Why couldn’t he get her out of his mind? Every second of the day, he could only see her gray eyes, the mole on the right corner of her mouth, the glasses perched on her nose. And as Amber ate her ice cream, he couldn’t help but envision the girl he had given his heart to sitting there.

William let out a growl, tearing his gaze away from her back to what he was eating. What was the point, really?

@Imperfect_Autumn group

At the sound of her dormmate’s growl, Amber finally looked over at him. He wasn’t even looking at her, but she had the feeling that she — or at least something relating to her — had been the cause of it. Was he mad at her? What had she even done to make him mad?

William leaned back against the chair, putting a spoonful of mint chocolate chip ice cream in his mouth. He sought for a distraction, and once he found it, he grabbed it.

“What are you going to do now?” He asked her, trying to keep the anger out of his voice.

“With Jace,” William answered, resting his cheek on his palm. “What are you going to do with him?”

Deleted user

“Right,” William nodded, looking outside the glass of the ice cream shop. He already had something brewing in his mind, though he didn’t know whether it was a good thing or not. After all, it would result in team disruption. Still, Jace would deserve it.
