Eva nodded quickly, still beaming. "Sounds great. If you ever need my help with anything, let me know."
Eva nodded quickly, still beaming. "Sounds great. If you ever need my help with anything, let me know."
“Thank you. I might end up taking you up on that,” Kasey half joked with a smile before taking a sip of water.
Eva smiled, and Barry leaned over to flick her forehead in a brotherly fashion. And, in reality, they were exactly like siblings, not to mention completely comfortable around each other.
“How are your parents?” Barry asked cautiously after a moment. Eva’s smile faltered. “Not very happy with me…”
Concern flickered across Kasey’s face at that. “What— If you don’t mind my asking, what happened?” she wondered softly.
Eva glanced away, giving a terse shrug. “I, uh… wasn’t supposed to pursue the career choice I chose. I did it anyways. Payed for the classes myself—with some help from Barry, a few months ago. They’re….. threatening me. In their own special way.”
"Ah… I see," Kasey murmured, chewing on her lip. "I'm sorry, Eva."
Barry reached over to squeeze her hand, but she brushed it off, smoothly changing the subject. "Where's the wedding going to be?"
“It’s outside. We found a really nice park to have it in, so that’s where it will be,” Kasey explained, finishing off her sandwich.
"That sounds great," Eva responded, her cheer only slightly forced. "Are you guys hiring a wedding planner, or doing it all yourselves?"
“We’re hiring someone. I have no idea how to plan a wedding other than the few things I already knew I wanted,” Kasey chuckled.
Eva smiled at that. “I’ve heard it’s a lot of work, though I wouldn’t know from experience.”
“Oh, it is,” Kasey chuckled, smiling up at Barry lovingly. “We’ve barely even started, and it is. But it’ll be worth it. I know it will.”
"Of course," Barry murmured, his eyes softening as he looked down upon the light of his life. He reached for her hand, entangling their fingers. "Worth every second…"
Kasey blushed slightly and reached up to kiss him gently. “Love you, Barr,” she whispered when she pulled away.
(Skip soon?)
“Love you, too…” he murmured, Eva momentarily forgotten.
[Time Skip: Third Weekend in June, Saturday evening]
Kasey took a deep breath and ran her hands over the skirt of her dress. She breathed out slowly and looked up at herself in the mirror. She looked good. And this dress… Gosh, she couldn’t believe her luck. This was the dress she had chose for this day, and she was not regretting it in the least. It was beautiful, and it looked amazing on her.
She could hear the others continuing to get ready on the other side of the door. With a smile, she looked over and started for it, and a deep breath later she was through.
Madeline gasped, catching the attention of the other ladies. “Kasey! You look gorgeous!”

“What if I mess up?”
Barry exhaled an anxious, trembling breath as he stood in front of the mirror, adjusting tiny parts of his look every few seconds. “Caleb, what if I make a mistake on me vows?? What if I stumble?? What if I miss when the priest tells us to kiss? What if she thinks I look awful??”
Barry’s best friend swatted his hands away from his perfectly styled hair, sighing. “Barry, you are going to be amazing.” Clapping his hands on each of the groom’s shoulders, Caleb offered a comforting smile. “This is your day, Barr! Don’t let anything ruin it. Kasey’s going to think you’re the most handsome man alive. You won’t mess up on the cows, and you won’t trip. Have a little faith in yourself, okay?”
Barry tried for a nervous smile, his stomach twisting itself into a knot. “I miss her already. I’ve only been apart from her for one night and I miss her.. so much…”
Caleb laughed. “Save the mushy crap for your future wife. Stop fiddling with your cuff links, stop trying to fix your flawless hair, and get out there.”
Girls hugged her carefully, not wanting to wrinkle her dress or their dresses or her makeup on anything. Tears were shed and carefully dabbed at with a tissue, mostly by the emotional bride.
And those emotions only increased when she suddenly realized that her parents wouldn’t be there to see her. Her parents wouldn’t get to watched her walk down the aisle, marry the man of her dreams, have a family with him… They wouldn’t be there for any of it.
She squeezed her eyes shut and disappeared back into the private room she had used to get dressed in. Tears threatened to slip past their prison behind her eyelids, but she held them back. She didn’t have time to fix her makeup if she started bawling, and she wouldn’t be able to hide the redness if her eyes. So she forced herself to take deep breaths, breathing in and out slowly. A few minutes later, she could open her eyes and smile again.
Today’s was her day. It was her wedding. She needed to be happy. She had Barry and Harper and Madeline. She had all the wonderful friends and family who had shown up for the celebration. And so she was happy, grinning, laughing once more as she tried to keep our both sad tears and tears of Joy. Tears of joy that she was going to marry her best friend very soon.
Barry was his hands down the smooth fabric of his navy blue suit, anxiously adjusting the white rose in his breast pocket one last time. Then, giving Caleb a nervous smile, he slipped from his bedroom and made for the door.
Today was his wedding day. Today was the day that he was to marry Kasey. Kasey—his best friend, the love of his life. The woman who had risked her life to bring him home safe and sound. Subconsciously, Barry reached up to trace the scars on his chest. Elation filled him up, bubbling and uncontrollable. An enormous smile spread across his features. His eyes swam with tears of pure joy.
“Just a bit longer. The guests have started to arrive and are being seated, now we just wait until three o’clock,” Madeline said, taking the younger woman’s hand in both of hers and squeezing. “How excited are you?”
Kasey gave her a shaky smile thavwidened into a grin so bright thstbit rivaled the sun that was currently shining. “So excited. I’m actually so excited that I almost feel like I’m going to throw up, honestly,” she breathed, brushing a piece of curled hair behind her ear. She had settled on something simple for her hairstyle, just curls and a lacy, sparkly headband. It had been her mother’s…
“That’s normal, I’m sure. As long as you actually don’t throw up, you’ll be fine. Keep sipping on your water,” the doctor reminded her with a soft smile.
Kasey let out a breath, nodding slowly. She glanced over at the pop-up table bybher side and picked up the bottle of water she had set there. After taking a few sips, she was feeling a little better.
The driver of Barry’s (car? Limo?) pulled up near the wedding’s location, and he climbed out with Caleb and a few other friends in tow.
They all clapped him on the back, cheering him on as his eyes swept their surroundings, the beautiful, natural church in which he and his lover were to be wed.
(Probably car. Lol.)
Kasey glanced out a window, chewing on her lip. She smiled as she looked out at the sunshine and the green grass and the flowers spread around the area they would be doing the ceremony in. It was beautiful, and she was very impressed with how it had turned out.
There were bows of light blue tulle tied to the chairs, a white carpet rolled down the aisle for them to walk down. At the end of it was a giant circle made of pale blue flowers and greenery. And she loved it.
Minutes later, Barry found himself on the makeshift platform at the end of the aisle with little recollection as to how he'd gotten there. His mind was enshrouded in a thick fog, the world a blur of colours and shapes around him as he waited—waited for his bride to come walking towards him. His heart pounded furiously, ensnared in an inescapable tangle of anxiety and anticipation, all the while aching to see her again. His Kasey, his Kasey Amberly Taylor, who was soon to be Kasey Lawrence.
My wife…
Dimly, he registered the music playing. A breeze stirred his carefully combed hair. He clenched and unclenched his clammy hands, growing more restless by the second. Where was the love of his life? He wanted to hold her tight, kiss her until she couldn't stand. Most of all, he wanted to hear her say the magic words—I do.
Barry's eyes skittered nervously over the guests before him. Briefly, they locked with those of his mother and father, and his gut twisted. But to his immense relief, they smiled at him, and though their happiness seemed a bit strained… they weren't making a fuss. Weren't creating problems, weren't ruining the happiest day of his life.
It was going to be alright. They were going to be alright.
Kasey was taking slow, deep breaths. She was nervous. More nervous than she had ever been. And she was a superhero! She had plenty of things to be nervous about. This was nothing, right? Just walking down an aisle to say a few words and then kissing her husband-to-be.
Husband…
She still couldn’t get over the fact that she would be officially married in a matter of minutes. And to the love of her life, no less. The thought made her grin as the bridesmaids and groomsmen started to walk down the aisle in pairs.
As she watched them, she took slow breaths, calming herself. It was working. Soon, she would be walking down the aisle, into the warm summer air. She hoped her hair wouldn’t frizz up… But there was enough hairspray in it that she guessed it wouldn’t. That was good.
The ring beaters made their way down, carrying a white pillow that was supposed to hold the rings. They weren’t really there, though. The best man had been so that they wouldn’t get lost. The little boys were soon followed by the flower girls, who stepped down the aisle, throwing petals.
And then the music changed. It was her turn to go. She looked up at Harper, who was walking her down in place of their father. Her eyes were wide as they met his, and he wrapped her in his arms for a quick, tight hug.
“You’ve got this, sis,” he murmured in her ear before pulling away with a grin. She gave him a thankful smile, nodded silently, and held onto his arm.
She stepped out the doors, and everyone stood and turned to face her. Underneath the makeup she wore, her cheeks burned red, and she tightened her grip on Harper. Then she was walking down the aisle, toward Barry, and her eyes lifted to meet his. Tears stung her eyes, but she didn’t let them spill as she smiled up at her love.
There was no word in the entire English dictionary to describe what Barry was feeling.
His eyes landed on Kasey's, and the whole world distorted around her until the only clear images were those of her beautiful eyes and radiant smile. His lips parted in a silent 'oh'—–she looked gorgeous. Her white dress complimented her perfectly, her hair was styled in a perfect, pinned-up style. Her cheeks were flushed pink, her eyes were rimmed with the faintest red—a result of trying to hold back tears. Barry couldn't stop staring… but not because of the outfit or makeup. His Kasey, his amazing, stunning, out-of-this-world Kasey, was walking down the aisle to him.
The love of his life, getting closer and closer with each step.
Barry truly believed his heart was going to burst. Every single thought had flown from his head—the only thing he could think was her name. Kasey. Kasey, Kasey, Kasey. She was only a few feet away now. With each step she took, the pink on his cheeks darkened. His hands shook a fraction faster, his heart thundered louder and louder. KaseyKaseyKasey.
Tears filled his eyes.
Kasey didn’t take her eyes off of Barry as she stepped down the aisle. She was incredibly glad she had decided on wearing a simple pair of white, lacy flats instead of high heels. That would have been painful.
As she got closer and closer, she began to see the evidence of Barry’s emotions showing on his face. His eyes filled with tears, his cheeks deepened in color…
Barr, don’t cry. If you cry then I’ll cry, and neither of us will be able to saw our vows, she whispered in his mind, her voice there even shaking.
And then they were at the end of the aisle, met by the minister, who spoke loud enough to be heard. “Who gives this woman to be married to this man?”
“I do,” Harper answered, loud and clear.
Easier said than done, my love.
The next while was a blur of the priest's oddly melodic voice and an untameable anticipation. The love of Barry's life was right there, a mere foot or two away from him, and he wanted nothing but to wrap her up in a tight embrace and crush his mouth against hers. But he couldn't. He could do nothing but stand there, nearly trembling from sheer need, eyes fixed to hers.
"Do you, Barry Lawrence, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
A single tear trickled down Barry's cheek. "I do," he answered, voice breaking slightly.
The rest of the wedding went by in a blur, both figuratively and literally. The tears in Kasey’s eyes threatened to spill over, even as she grinned at Barry. She squeezed his hands, wanting nothing more than to be wrapped in his arms.
“And do you, Kasey Taylor, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
Kasey’s grin rivaled the sun in its brightness as she nodded. “I do,” she breathed, unable to muster more of a voice than that.
Barry nearly slammed his lips against hers right there and then. But then, the priest cleared his throat, and his anxiety and anticipation came to an overwhelming crescendo.
"I now present to you—Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence. You may kiss the bride."
That was all the prompting he needed. Without waiting another instant, he wrapped his arms around the love of his life and kissed her like the world was about to end.
Kasey cupped Barry’s cheeks in her hands as soon as his lips touched hers. She kissed him back as of her life depended on it, though not quite as desperately as that.
She was married. Kasey was now married. Kasey Amberly Lawrence.
“I’m your wife,” she breathed against his lips. “You’re my husband… My husband…”
