(Thanks! I figure it can either be where they're keeping a lot of magic people, or just a small prison from which magic people are transferred. We can decide that together.)
Septima picked up the pace back towards the main part of the castle. She needed to leave this courtyard.
She entered into one of the main halls and started making conversation with servants, royal advisors, and the lower-downs, but nothing they said really caught her attention. She was still preoccupied by what she may have just found.
Skye scaled, to the top of the tower. Slipping up to the singular window he peaked in seeing nothing he scaled to the roof. Once he was at the top where the flag flew, he looked down at the castle below.
Hey Septima? Find anything interesting?
(I think it would make sense if they had a lot, but only those they could have absolute control over. Like half wolves, or something similar, and that they were using them for power.)
(Yeah, works for me)
Septima kept walking.
Yeah… I guess interesting is one way of putting it… Look, they’re holding prisoners here. I walked by the dungeon on accident, and I can only assume there are magic folks being kept there.
Lovely replied Skye. We can check that out later. See what else you can find around the grounds.
That's the idea. I got out of there as fast as I could.
Septima found surprisingly little after that. These people were mostly just living their lives. It just so happened that they were trying to oppress magical people, and that wasn't part of everyday conversation, or necessarily something obvious at all.
Skye nodded to her reply, leaping off the tower and warping back to the roof. Wandring around for a few more hours he headed back to the suite they were given.
Septima had continued memorizing every turn of the palace that she could for a while, then returned to the suite, back through the window that led into the courtyard.
Skye slipped into the suites through a different window, coming out of the bedrooms shortly after Septima got back. "So, new prison for the magical?" he asked.
“A prison,” Septima said, “Probably for the magical.”
She closed the window behind her.
“I’m not sure how big it is… all I know is that there’s a staircase in a corner of the courtyard that leads down. There’s a door leading into some guard barracks, and another door through that one, leading into some sort of prison. I heard screaming… I can’t imagine what kind of torture they’re conducting down there.”
Skye sighed, "We'll have to investigate later." he said, "But right now we should both get some rest." he checked around the room again. "It'll be early rising tomorrow."
“Yeah, that would be wise,” Septima agreed.
She sighed and went to her bag for an old crumpled-up shirt and baggy pants that she used for sleeping.
Skye pointed to a door, "I'm going to assume that's yours." he said, "There should be clothing there for you."
“O-oh… I guess so…”
She put her clothes away and went for the silk gown hanging on the door.
Septima opened the door, which led into a smaller second room. She took her bag with her and closed the door behind before changing. She sighed when she felt how bare her legs were in the gown. As short as she was, it still managed to cover as little skin as possible. However, the fabric was comfortable and would be fine for sleeping.
Skye smiled when he saw her go, turning to his own room and changing into a loose pair of pants before flopping comfortably on the large bed.
Septima laid down on the bed, carefully pulling back the covers. The materials of the sheets and comforter were luxurious, yet she still had trouble sleeping. Perhaps it was knowing the real her wasn't wanted here, and was thought better off dead. She was still scared.
Skye stared at the ceiling for what seemed an eternity. Finally he sighed. Sitting up he scooted to the middle of the bed sitting crosslegged. He knew he wasn't gonna sleep without making it up to Arthur. Arthur? he reached out tentatively.
what? Did something happen?
Not yet… but… I… Skye struggled to find the words.
What?
I wanted to apologize for earlier…
Skye… you don't have to… I already know I'm never gonna escape it….
That doesn't mean it isn't wrong…. you shouldn't have to deal with that anymore… said Skye.
I know…. but that doesn't change the fact that there is, and always will, be an uncrossable rift between me and you, and the others. said Arthur. And we all know nothing will change that.
Septima felt herself start to drift off after what felt like hours. She sank down into the soft pillows and blankets for what was probably the best sleep she'd had in a while.
Skye felt tears come as Arthur broke the link. He lay back, wishing that Arthur's words weren't true.
Arthur sat back on the lonely rooftop, crying. He'd been forcing it down since earlier, but he couldn't hold it in anymore.
(Should we skip to morning?)
(Alright)
Septima woke up with a few small rays of light streaming in through the window. She slowly sat up and stretched out, then went to get dressed.
"Skye, are you up?" she called through the door, loud enough for him to hear if he was awake, but hopefully soft enough that he could still rest if he was not.
Skye had slept fitfully, but being a light sleeper he awoke at Septima's voice. "Lemme sleep Sept!" he groaned, enjoying the comfy bed he was on.
She bit her lip. "Ugh… sorry…"
Septima made her way through the chamber.
"I'll just leave and maybe investigate some more. You can join me whenever."
Skye appeared at the door, his hair was totally messed up. "I'm coming I'm coming give me a minute…" he said before disappearing to get dressed.
"Oh, you didn't have to," Septima said.
She sighed softly and apologized again. She should've just sneaked out and left a note.
Skye came out a moment later, "Aww it's ok!" he said, "I was getting too comfortable anyway…"
"Gods, these bedrooms are nice," Septima agreed, "I slept like a baby."
She looked down to see her shoelaces were untied, so she bent down to fix them.
Skye grinned, "Well obviously, we were given a royal suite…"
"It's not like I come from a rich family," Septima said with a laugh, "I didn't even know they made beds this comfortable."
"Honestly me either.." said Skye.
