I thanked him quietly, a grin overtaking my lips as I scanned the shelves for more.
“Oh!” A silvery record caught my eye. “Is that….?” Slipping it off the shelf and into my hands, I inspected its label closely. “Whoah…”

I furrowed my eyebrows, walking over to her and resting my chin on her shoulder as I peered over it.
“Found something you like?” I inquired.
I nodded quickly, holding it up to the light.
“I thought these were all sold! There’s a solo violinist, Mariah Silver, and she’s amazing. She plays so fast, and it’s almost a modern or futuristic style? Hard to describe.”
“Good thing we came today, huh?” I chuckled, amused by her adorable behavior. “I think I’ve heard of that one.”
I pressed both records to my chest, leaning back and against my boyfriend. “Very good. Are you going to get anything?”
I wrapped my arms around her neck, giving her a kiss on her cheek.
“No,” I replied warmly. “I think I’ll be good. We have your music, don’t we?”
Suddenly, an idea rose to mind.
“Almost.” I placed the records in his hands and backed away. “Hold those, I’ll be right back!”
I grabbed the records she pushed into my hands, confusion present on my face as I watched her go. What was she doing?
It took me a few minutes, but after a careful sweep of the back shelves, I located a small but polished record labeled ‘[…] Falling in Love With You - Presley, Elvis’. Grinning triumphantly, I hid the title from view with my palm and rushed back to Colton. “Ready!”
I pulled her into my arms, swinging her around a little. “What did you get?”
“It’s a surprise!” I laughed, clinging to him tightly with my free arm. “Let’s go pay?”
I furrowed my eyebrows, but obeyed nonetheless. “All right. Let’s go pay.”
We left the store soon after, a small bag hanging from my arm. “D’you want to see what I bought?” I asked Colton, bumping our hips together. “For you. Even though you paid for it. I’ll pay you back.”
I rested my hand on her hip, pulling her closer. “First of all, of course I want to know,” I said to her. “Secondly, don’t. One day, what’s mine will officially be yours. Why pay me back then?”
I flushed lightly, pressing against him. “It’s a bit weird to pay for your own gift….”
After a pause, I fished the record out of my bag and pushed it into his free hand, biting my lip.
I offered her a grin. “Hey, don’t worry about it. Like I said, you don’t need to.”
I looked down at the record, my eyebrows furrowing together. The name sounded eerily familiar, and I could hear a feminine voice singing along.
“You sang this for me,” I said to Elle, surprised. “When I asked you to. This was the song, wasn’t it?”
“It brought you back..” I murmured, lifting a hand to graze the base of my throat. “Do you like it?”
“What do you mean… it brought me back?” I asked her in confusion, wincing when I caught her hand on her throat. Surely she couldn’t be talking about… “And of course I do. Thank you, Elle.”
A smile ghosted over my lips. “You’re welcome. It was…. it was when he took control. I sang it.. and it brought you back.”
Then it came to me. A scared voice singing for me. I remembered it called out to me, dragging me out of the prison I was in. I pulled her into a hug, digging my face in the crook of her neck and breathing her in.
“Thank you,” I whispered. “I’ll treasure it for as long as I live.”
I startled, not expecting the embrace, but soon relaxed against him. “I just wanted to give you something meaningful..
“All I need is you,” I murmured. “As long as I have you, I don’t need anything else. This is meaningful, Elle. Thank you.”
"Anytime.." I murmured, pressing a kiss to his jaw. "Where are we off to, now?"
“Elle… do I come off as too strong?” I finally questioned, pulling away from her to look at her in the eyes.
I tugged him to the side and out of the way of passing pedestrians, my brows drawing together in confusion. "Too strong? What do you mean?"
I let her pull me along, rubbing the back of my head. “As in… do I make you uncomfortable? I know I come off too strong sometimes, but I don’t want you being uncomfortable because of my forwardness.”
I paused to think, admittedly surprised by the question. No one had ever thought to ask me that before….
"You don't make me uncomfortable," I said slowly, "You know my limits. I don't mind being teased—I like it. But in the future, if we go further, I don't want our relationship to be a sexual one, if that makes sense?"
I nodded, reaching out to caress her cheek, relief coursing through me. I hadn’t made her uncomfortable.
“I’m glad,” I finally replied. “The truth is, I want you. I’ll want you every day and that fact will never change. And that doesn’t necessarily mean sexually. It means that day, I want you to be my queen. I want to wait—wait until that moment, because that’ll make it much more special. So I won’t go too far, not unless you tell me yourself.”
Nodding slowly, I leaned against his chest. "Thank you… It means a lot. Nobody really asked before, they just.. assumed and took. And it wasn't that bad, I guess. It's just nice to be asked. And it's nice to be wanted. Especially by you."
I almost snarled when she told me that. I didn’t mind the fact that she’d dated before. Of course she had dated. She should have. What made me furious was the fact that she was used, and not even asked. No consent.
“I’ll always ask,” I told her. “Just not when I want to kiss you, unless you’re mad at me. Then I’ll obviously ask. And I’ll always want you. You, and no one else. No matter how many years go by, even if… even if we have to part ways, I’ll always want you.”
