I chuckled at her answer, looking around myself. “I can buy you clothes,” I murmured. “So you can wear those when we sneak out like this.”
I chuckled at her answer, looking around myself. “I can buy you clothes,” I murmured. “So you can wear those when we sneak out like this.”
My eyes practically lit up. “Would you really do that? For me? I’ll pay you back, I promise.”
I rolled my eyes.
“You know, you’re too silly to assume I’d let you,” I chuckled in amusement. “Anything you want. You’ll have it. I’ll get you anything.”
My prominent blush, an effect of Colton’s earlier teasing, began to fade, though I was still plenty bashful. “Thank you… I’ll pay you in kisses.”
I smiled, reaching up for her hand and giving it a squeeze. “Well, how can I refuse that?”
I squeezed it back, smiling as a cool breeze ruffled my hair. “It’s warm for this time of year, isn’t it?”
“It’s good,” I replied back with a smile. “You won’t be catching a cold.”
My eyes fell on a stall on the side. I slowly walked towards it, a ring coming into view. I chuckled at it. It was a queen crown ring, silver in color.
“How much is it for this?” I questioned, trying to keep the nobility out of my voice. The man rubbed his hands gleefully, not at all startled by the woman on my shoulders. Good.
“Three cold coins,” he answered and I raised an eyebrow before reaching into my pocket, producing the amount he needed, setting it on the table. He took it immediately, handing me the ring. I pulled on her hand, looking at it curiously before I slipped in the ring on to her pointer finger where it fit. I felt satisfied.
My heart warmed at the sight of the ring.
"Thank you…." I whispered, pressing my lips to the top of his head. "It's beautiful."
I kissed her hand softly, a smile on my face, breathing deeply when she kissed the top of my head. I briefly wondered what illusion she gave me, whether it was as weird for her as it was for me, but immediately shook the thought away.
“I’m glad you like it,” I murmured, bending down so she could get off of my shoulders.
I slid down his back and onto my feet, slinging my arms around his neck. My fingers brushed over his altered facial features, the same colours as before (thick, dark hair, the same hazel eyes), but completely different shapes.
I hooked my arms under her knees, my hands tightening their hold on her as I stood up, pulling her over my back. Instead of my shoulders, why not my back?
“Isn’t this much better?” I questioned teasingly.
I squeaked in surprise as I felt myself being lifted off the ground, but was quickly laughing again. “Yes, much. Where to now?”
I felt her lean against my back and smiled, pushing her up a little make her more comfortable on my back.
“Do you want to eat?” I asked her. “To be honest, it’s my third time coming out of the… house, and my first without—without an escort.”
“Wait, wait.” My brow furrowed. “You’re telling me that you’ve only ever left the palace or the school three times, and never without someone guarding you? What?”
“Yes,” I nodded. “Two time It was because of political matters. The third time, I was tired of being in the palace for too long. I wanted to be alone, but unfortunately, I was fifteen and could not leave without an escort. At that time, I didn’t understand why. Now I do, somewhat.”
I stretched my neck over his shoulder to stare at him, wide-eyed. “So…. other than paintings and geography textbooks… you have no idea what your kingdom looks like?”
I stared back at her, her wide-eyes amusing me despite the discomfort.
“No, no I don’t,” I answered truthfully, feeling ashamed. “Everything I know, I’ve seen in books and paintings, or through talks in the palace halls.”
I blinked slowly, trying to wrap my head around this foreign concept. As a child, despite my rich parents and lavish home, I’d spent most of my day away from school outside, playing beyond the borders of my family’s estate. “Oh…. I’ll teach you. Know that I know this spell, we can go wherever we won’t on the weekends. I’ll show you.”
I looked at her in amusement, a smile on my features.
“We can only stay in the Imperial City,” I reminded her softly. “Do you know any place we could eat?”
“Technically, we don’t. There’s bound to be a transportation spell for my level somewhere. Your father will never know.” Grinning, I looked around. “Err.. I’ve never been to this particular sector before. What kind of food do you like?”
(Isn’t the boarding school on an island?)
(… I totally forgot, oh my God.)
“Transporting humans is different from transporting objects,” I murmured. “It requires much more energy. Unless you have a greater energy source, you can’t do more than one round without getting exhausted.”
(Lol)
“Then I’ll transport us there, and you transport us back,” I reasoned simply, tightening my legs around his middle. “What do you want to eat?”
“Sounds good,” I tightened my hold on her legs. “We can eat whatever you want to eat. Ah, do you want a change of clothes? I just realized you’ve been wearing Elliot’s.”
“That’s probably a good idea,” I laughed. Nosing at his temple, I pointed him in the direction of a quaint little dress shop. “Over there? And are you going to change?”
I gave her an offended look. “Is there something wrong with the way I’ve dressed?”
His indignation prompted a chuckle from my lips. “You look a bit… well, princely. Have you ever worn simple clothes?”
“Of course I have,” I furrowed my eyebrows at her chuckles. “Haven’t you seen my closet?”
I chuckled lightly. “No, Cole. I mean simple clothes. Farmers boy type garments.”
I fell silent, resorting to staring at her. “… Why would you ever think I wear clothes like that?” Then I realized how terrible that sounded and corrected myself. “There’s no way a prince would be allowed to even have those clothes.”
