I pulled her into my lap, wrapping my arms around her so I could kiss her better.
“Anything I want…?” I murmured against her mouth, biting down on her bottom lip gently.

“Anything I want…?” I murmured against her mouth, biting down on her bottom lip gently.
I paused, my fingers loosening in his hair. “I—I didn’t mean it like that. Sorry.”
I smiled against her lips.
“Neither did I, love,” I chuckled, choosing to tease her. “Get your mind out of the gutter.”
I flushed, pulling my mouth away from his and burying my face in his chest. “You’re not allowed to tease me this much…!”
I laughed, kissing her lightly on the top of her head.
“And says who?” I asked, pulling on her ear with my teeth.
I bumped my forehead against his chest, pouting playfully despite the fact that he couldn’t see my face. “Me.. I’m going to tease you today..”
I tilted her face so she was looking at me before I trailed her lips with my thumb.
“And how, I wonder, are you going to do that?”
My breath hitched.
Though my voice wobbled dangerously, I trailed a thumb down his neck and pressed the spot I’d previously marked. “I have a few ideas…”
(Oof I meant to say thumb, not tongue. Lol.)
I breathed in deeply, maintaining eye contact with her. “Do you want to elaborate on that, or…?”
(Lol)
I flashed him a daring, if slightly shaky, grin, and slid right off his lap. “I’ll keep you waiting.”
I clicked my tongue just as the carriage stopped.
"Well then, let's go find a private spot so you can cast that illusion," I murmured.
"Mmhm." I nearly reached for his hand, but restrained myself. Just a few more minutes…. "Don't forget to pull down your hood, or everyone will go berserk upon seeing you.."
I sighed before doing what she reminded me, pulling a hood over myself, head down as I stepped out of the carriage. There were too many people here, but it wasn't like I minded. We just needed to find a quiet spot where Elle could perform her illusion…
I took a deep breath of the crisp autumn air, grinning like a madman as we slipped past shops and quaint winding streets. Leading him behind a cluster of buildings, I closed my eyes, murmured a spell, felt magic flood my system….. and when I opened my eyes, I was a completely different person.
Red ringlets hung to my waist, shot through with lighter highlights. My face was rounder, my features softer, cheekbones higher. My eyes, once almond-brown and shot through with faded green, were now the same colour as the grass beneath our feet—at least, what it would have looked like had it been summer.
A part of me was nervous—what if he found this illusion more beautiful than my actual appearance? But I pushed my worries away and concentrated on him instead, tugging a veil over his head until he too was a changed person.
I didn't put thought to my appearance, instead paying attention to Elle who turned herself into a completely different person. I pulled her towards me, arms on her waist, my lips on hers.
"As I thought…" I murmured, kissing her softly. It felt weird–as if I was kissing someone else and not my girlfriend. "No illusions can replace your original look… I'm torn between having you cancel it, or keeping it."
I let out a loud, exhilarated laugh, placing both hands on his shoulders and hoisting myself up into his arms. My momentum spun us around, our lips locked together, and in that moment, we were just us. Not Type As, not the Prince and his secret girlfriend. Just two lovestruck people, kissing behind a cluster of buildings. "Shut up and kiss me, Cole."
I smiled against her lips, pulling her closer, feeling the excitement course through me. I was kissing my lover in plain sight. Where people could see, and we wouldn’t be caught. Though we’d changed into different people, we were still the same. Her body fit in mine like it originally did. Her lips molded into mine, tasting like honey like they always did. Soft, swollen—like a drug coaxing me back every time I pulled apart.
I let my fingers tangle in her hair—long hair, running through it for the first time even though it was fake. It felt real. Everything felt real despite the illusion.
“I already am, my love,” I breathed against her lips, pulling away to speak before I took over her mouth again, uncaring of who would find us.
Because right now, I was not Colten Miller and she was not Elle Amberly. I was Noah and she was Isabella, and we were two perfectly normal, dangerously in love teenagers who could never get enough of each other. And I never wanted this day to be over.
I laughed again, and this time I couldn't stop. I was drunk on happiness, drunk on love—–No, I was drunk on Colton. Breathing in his intoxicating scent, laughter spilling from my lips, a perfect bubble of bliss. Sunlight warmed my back, turned my worries to dust.
"Cole—" The name bubbled up from between my puffy, sore-from-kissing lips. I said it again, louder, into his mouth in case anyone was around. "Cole."
Ever since I had been cursed, I hated my name. It reminded me of the way she taunted me, letting me know that even my name was not mine. But when Elle said it… it felt mine. It became mine, and the way she shortened it…
“Elle…” I chuckled against her mouth, her laughter ringing in my ears like a soft melody, shooting peace through my body. I pulled away from her, breathing heavily, staring right into her eyes. “This… this is what we would be able to do once I am king—once the kingdom is under my rule and you rise up from the shadows. Never needing to hide, coming out clean.”
I still couldn’t stop laughing, peppering every inch of his face with tiny, loving kisses. Somehow, we’d drifted closer to the main street, where people could see us, and for once in my life——I did not give a single shit.
“I love you—Cole, I love you. Noah. Whatever you call yourself—“ I pressed a firm kiss to his lips. “I. Love. You. Now, swing me around. Please?”
“As you wish, my lady,” I murmured, picking her off of the floor and swinging her around, a warm smile on my features. I brought her face closer to mine, pressing our lips together.
I could hear the good-natured chuckles of passerby, even a faint clapping—and, God, did it feel good.
“I love you, I love you, IloveyouIloveyouIloveyou—“
Clapping interrupted the bubble that was created around us, but I immediately fixed it because of the words she was speaking to me.
“I love you, too, my little fairy,” I set her on her feet and pulled her close until our foreheads were touching. “So, so much.”
I set an exhilarated sound free from my throat, grabbing onto Colton’s hand and taking off through the crowd with him in tow. “Come on!”
I let out a laugh when Elle pulled me, breaking through the crowd, excitement clear on her features. Oh, how beautiful she looked. I wanted to see this happiness on her real face. Without the illusion.
“Hey, you’re going to tear my arm out from its socket!” I chuckled, shaking my head though I had no problem keeping up with her pace. “Slow down, Isabella.”
“I want to see the town!” I called, letting my hair whip out behind me.
Suddenly, a mischievous smile crossed my face. Without pausing in my mad dash, I used all the training I’d compiled over years of rigorous dance and gymnastics, grabbed hold of his arm, and pulled myself up in a diagonal cartwheel until I was perched on his shoulders.
I almost lost my balance, but managed to grab a hold of her legs and firmly placing my feet on the ground.
“Careful!” I said to her, looking up rather sternly. “I don’t want you getting hurt.”
Though I’d said that, I began to walk, slowly at first but then picking up my pace. “How’s the view?”
I grinned impishly down at him, my cheeks dimpling even through the illusion I’d created for myself. “Perfect. What do you want to do?”
To tease her, I turned my head and kissed her thigh, squeezing her legs tightly.
“Let’s look around first,” I replied casually as if I had done nothing. “Tell me if there’s something you want.”
My eyes flew open as the mischievous expression melted straight off my face. “Oh—Um—We can—We can look around.”
