"Let me check the stuff Nat brought." Aika flounced back over to the pile on the counter, digging around. "Got both."
"Let me check the stuff Nat brought." Aika flounced back over to the pile on the counter, digging around. "Got both."
Ava grabbed the basil and oregano and sprinkled them into the sauce.
"That already smells good." Aika commented, beginning to put away the pots and pans, and a cheese grader that she looked oddly happy to have.
Ava nodded. "Do y-you have a-any garlic?"
"Check the pile. That's those little things that look vaguely like onions, right?"
"K-Kinda? They peel like onions b-but they don't h-have the same shape." Ava said as she looked through the pile.
"Right side of the pile, underneath the bag of shredded cheese, but on top of the salt." Aika said without looking up from the noodles she was stirring.
Ava found it and began to peel it until she got one of the lobes.
Aika hummed softly as she stirred the noodles and the sauce, a haunting melody that didn't seem to follow any set rules, yet sill sounded good.
Ava listened to Akia humming. It was entrancing. "How do you do that?" Ava asked.
Aika looked up, some sort of haze leaving her face. "Do what?"
"The thing w-with your voice." Ava said as she put down the knife she was holding. "I-I've studied almost e-every fight you have e-ever had with Shockwave a-and I still c-can't figure out h-how you do that."
"That's incredibly unspecific." Aika said in Shockwave's voice, raising an eyebrow.
Ava jumped. "Th-That! You c-can manipulate y-your voice t-to sound like o-other people o-or to make people t-talk! H-How do you do th-that?" She asked.
"Inflection. You can study it further, now that you're here. If you want, I mean." She grabbed a strainer and stuck it in the sink, pouring the noodles in.
She can do it to that level? "B-But what about w-what you can d-do to m-make people talk?" She asked. She can't use inflection for that…can she?
"Oh, that's a mix. It's partly using the right inflection, to mimic a voice that makes them calm. Not like, all the way. Not like this." Aika said the last part in Ava's voice. "But more….like this." Her voice took on a soothing and almost magical tone, the kind that would make someone want to spill their deepest secret.
Ava shuddered when Akia used her own voice but the relaxed when she used her soothing one. "I-It's really weird to h-hear someone o-other than yourself use y-your voice." Ava said.
"I bet. I'll try and refrain from using yours around you, don't worry."
"Thanks." Ava mumbled. God her voice is so pretty though.
"I'm giving you an exclusive." Aika said suddenly, meeting Ava's eyes. "Any question about me, my power, or the universe, and I'll answer. Or at least, try."
Ava stared back at Akia. "Uhh…well…When d-did you first s-start to use your…umm…'talent' t-to break th-the law?" Ava asked, confused with the sudden out of nowhere request.
(I'm baaaaaaack!!!!!)
((Heyyyy!!))
Aika thought for a moment. "I think I was sixteen. That was just for the first major thing, though."
"What d-did you do?" Ava asked, hoping it wasn't something like murder or…something else.
"I robbed a bank, nothing too special." Aika said simply, digging around the fridge for something to drink. "You know that one on East 40th?"
Ava nodded. The bank of East 40th had really lax security so it was quite easy to break into. Bates snuck in there once just to show that he could do it.
"Yeah. Wasn't too hard, shit security, and with my…talents, it was super easy." Aika didn't tell Ava why she had robbed the bank, didn't explain that she had been forced to. That wasn't something anyone needed to know.
"Y-Yeah." Ava said rubbing her neck. "The security i-is pretty bad. Literally a-anyone could break in there i-if they wanted to. You c-could rob that place w-with a pen." She pointed out.
"Honestly? Probably." Aika agreed, pulling out a jug of lemonade with an excited smile. "Hey, there's something to try. 'I robbed the second largest bank in France with a ballpoint pen'."
Ava chuckled. "That's f-from 'Ratatouille', right?" She said.
