"You better stay in school, I didn't get to go to school cause I had to work." Mallory jokingly wiggled her finger at him.
"You better stay in school, I didn't get to go to school cause I had to work." Mallory jokingly wiggled her finger at him.
“I’ve never been to school and I don’t plan on it.” Tristan said defensively
Mallory shook her head at the boy and returned to the pot roast. "Do you at least know some stuff?" she asked. She learned how to read when she was 6 from her grandma, after she passed away Mallory snuck out to read school books in the library.
“Uh, 2 + 2 = 4? If you’re asking if I can read, then no no I can’t.”
Mallory pursed her lips into a thin line. "Why don't I teach you sometime? Reading is very useful."
“I’m good, I don’t like learning and I have Melanie who every once in a while reads to me and Finn who teaches me how to play his guitar a bit…”
"Well, that's good." Mallory sighed. The pot roast was done. Mallory poured Tristan a bowl and handed it to him. "Eat up!" she sang as she got herself some too.
“Oh thank you! Is this pot roast? Haven’t had that in a few years.” He said spooning the food into his mouth
"It is! I'll pack you some to take with you."
"Oh, thank you, Miss Mallory!" He cheered.
Mallory got flustered when he said Miss. "N-no problem." It was unusual but she guessed that's how the boy was raised.
"So do you have any family here?" He asked.
Mallory's eyes glared at her cup in anger. "Not any I'd call family." she hissed
"Oh…" Tristan looked confused, he hadn't known his parents very well but they were nice people.
Mallory forced a smile. "Umm….what about your family?" she changed the subject
"They're dead, died a couple of years ago," Tristan sighed sipping his juice.

Mallory instantly felt bad. "I-I'm sorry." she decided to keep her mouth shut.
"I-it's fine, really," Tristan smiled, "I was never particularly close to them, they always worked."
(Don't beat me please, also I was in Algebraaaaaaaaaaaaaa now I'm in ILT)
All of a sudden they hear the sound of loud knocking on the door.
Mallory turned her head towards the door. "Who's that?" her parents weren't supposed to be home yet.
Tristan jumped up, ready to open the door or run, whatever was the right decision, He looked at Mallory.
Tristan slowly opened the door.
Mallory followed Tristan
"Hey, sorry I'm late." gasps out Jules as he leans down with his hands on his knees trying to catch his breath.
Tristan looked confused, "Wha-what, miss Mallory did you invite him?" He guessed confused.
Mallory cocked an eyebrow at the man
"Mallory it's me, Jules, from the park last week."
Tristan looked between the two confused then said, "I didn't know there was a park anywhere. I guess I don't go to deep into the city too often."
