Those name meanings are killing me rn)
Scarlet sighed. “Everyone’s cautious, Cade. They just need to get used to having someone new around.”
"Mhm." Cade still didn't believe her. He leaned back until his head hit the ground. He spread his legs out so he was lying on the ground.
She swallowed, leaning against a tree. “You don’t believe me, do you.”
"No. Guess that's just part of my winning, untrustworthy personality." He joked, staring at the little bit of sky he could see through the trees.
“Winning, yes. Untrustworthy not so much.”
Cade rolled his eyes at her then continued to look at the sky. "Right." He didn't want to have this conversation anymore.
Scarlet backed off, sighing and letting her eyes fell shut.
He felt like an idiot. Stupid. This is why people don't trust you, 'cause you don't listen to them. Cade didn't listen to his own advice, and instead closed his eyes and enjoyed the peacefulness.
Scarlet was silent, eyes tracing the constellations in the sky. At least she tried to cheer him up.
After a few minutes, Cade turned his head to look at Scarlet. "So what do we do next, Princess?"
“Technically, I’m the Queen now, so I guess I go and try to rule? I have no idea.” Her voice was sad.
He nodded solemnly. "It was a pretty quick adventure, wasn't it? I feel like it shouldn't be over yet."
“Honestly, I’m just glad my mothe— the Queen is dead.” Her eyes afopted a Fae off look.
*far off
"Yeah, but aren't you scared about what happens next?" Cade sat up. "Me, I guess I'll just go back to my town and hope no one recognizes me."
“I’m terrified about what happens next. And you and your family could always come live in the palace grounds.”, she offered.
"Thanks for the offer, but my parents aren't the kind of people that accept 'charity'." Cade made finger quotes with the last word.
“Well, then you can come.” She shrugged. “If you want.”
He laughed a little. "Maybe just to visit. No offense to you, but you need more guy friends."
“Well, considering the fact that the Queen are any guy that came near me, I think O have a valid excuse.” She smiled dryly, not offended in the slightest.
"Now that's overprotective." Cade joked, sitting up fully and sitting criss-cross.
“That’s one word for it.”, she grinned.
"Did she just hate guys or what?"
Scarlet shrugged. “She wanted only the ‘perfect ruler-type’ for me, which consisted of several disgusting men thirty years older than me.” She ran a hand through her hair, changing the subject. “I hate the colour red.”
"I can understand why." Cade nodded to her. "I hate the color green 'cause I see it too much by my house."
