(Dw about it. I just thought it was funny.)
“Forever and always,” Kasey agreed with a grin.
(Lol)
Barry’s heart skipped a beat.
The song changed, and they continued to dance, now much more energized due to the faster tempo. They moved together, laughed, even sang a little. But finally, Barry caught sight of the waitress carrying food over to their table. “That’s our cue~”
“Mm, good. I’m starving now,” Kasey chuckled, pulling away to link her arm through his. “Let’s go eat.”
Barry chuckled and lead her over to their table. “Yum~”
“Mmhm… It smells so good,” Kasey hummed as she sat down.
(Amber? lol)
“Eat up, love,” Barry smiled.
(Skip to desert or is there smtg you want to do here?)
(Nah, we can skip.)
(What did they order again? Lol)
(A chocolate cake and strawberry cheesecake.)
(Thanks)
As the meal progressed, Barry found himself growing more and more anxious. His stomach twisted, filled with a million fluttering butterflies. What if she denied him? What if she said no?
His fingers tightened around his fork. Please, God, if you’re up there, help me make this work.
But finally, finally, a waitress came to take their plates away. From behind Kasey, Barry spotted another carrying their deserts, though one was covered with a silver dish dome.
Kasey looked over af Barry, seeing his fingers tighten around his fork. She was trying hard not to read his mind, see what thing he was planning. If he wanted it to be a surprise, she wanted it to be a surprise, too.
The waitress stopped at the table and set an uncovered chocolate cake next to Barry. With a flourish, she slid the covered platter towards Kasey. Her fingers moved to lift the lid…
All of a sudden, Barry couldn’t breathe.
Before he had fully grasped the situation, he was rising to his feet, rounding the table, stopping behind his girlfriend, and placing his hands over her eyes. He gave the waitress a subtle nod, and with a wink… she lifted the cover to reveal the treat inside.
Kasey froze, confused. "Barr…? What's— whats going on?" she wondered softly, closing her eyes under his hands.
Barry inhaled sharply, squeezing his eyes shut for a moment. Breathe. Relax. You can do this.
Slowly, he lifted his hands from Kasey’s eyes so she could see exactly what he did—a huge strawberry cheesecake with elegant, looping words written across the top in white icing.
‘To the love of my life~ Will you marry me?’
Nestled between frosted flowers and various other decorations was a small black box, the one Barry had left with the cook barely a day ago.
“Kasey,” he started, barely masking the tremble in his voice as he came around the side of his girlfriend’s chair and lifted the box from the top of the cake. After a second, he got down on one knee. “Kasey, words will never be able to describe how much you mean to me.” Tears pricked his eyes. “You are the single most amazing woman I have ever had the fortune to meet—you’re perfect in every single way. Flawless. Phenomenal. Unreal. I remember the moment we met, our first date, our first kiss… I remember it all. I treasure every moment we’ve shared, and God, Kase, it all makes me so happy. You make me unbelievably happy. I know we recently went through a.. rough period. And I’m never going to stop apologizing for how I wasn’t there for you. But you’re the only person I could ever love this deeply, this unfathomably. You’re the only person I could ever love, period. So—“
Here, his voice broke.
“I want to stay with you forever, Kasey. I want to stand by your side, I want to walk down the aisle towards you. So… Kasey Amberly Taylor, will you marry me?”
Kasey's eyes lighted on the cake, widening slowly as she caught on. And then Barry taking the ring box from the cake. He was bending down, getting onto one knee. He was opening the box, looking up at her. He was speaking, and his words were melting her straight to the core. There was nothing left of her besides her heart, pure and touched.
She felt something wet trailing down her cheeks. Tears. She was crying? Oh, of course. Of course she was.
Her hand came up to cover her mouth as she looked down at him, and she was nodding before she even knew what she was doing.
"Barr… Oh my— oh my gosh. Barry, of course. Of course, yes. Yes yes yes," she choked out, giving him her hand so he could put the ring on. "Oh my gosh…"
Barry’s shoulders sank beneath a tidal wave of relief and the purest, brightest form of happiness he had ever known.
His trembling fingers fumbled to lift the ring from its box and slip it into her ring finger. His face was streaked with tears. And his heart? Never had it pounded so desperately in his chest.
Finally, he couldn’t stand it anymore. He surged up, slipped his arms around his fiancée, lifted her into a standing position, and crushed his lips against hers.
“Kasey,” he choked out against her blissfully familiar mouth. “Kasey, Kasey, Kasey, Kasey, Kasey. My Kasey.”
"My Barry… My love. My fiancé," Kasey breathed against him.
She kissed him back. Again and again she kissed him. There may have been other people in the restaurant, but they did not exist for her. For Kasey, it was just her and Barry. Kasey and Barry, and that was all it ever needed to be…
Barry’s fingers were entangled in Kasey’s thick, beautiful hair, his one hand taking her by the waist to pull her closer. “We’re—We’re going to be married,” he choked out, half laughing, half crying. “Oh my god—I’m going to marry the love of my life.”
Kasey cupped his cheeks in her hands, pressing their lips together again. "Ohmygosh… I'm going to marry you. You're going to marry me. We're going to be married…"
Barry swayed slightly, completely drunk on euphoria and happiness and love. He wanted to do nothing but kiss her for the rest of her night, hold her in his arms.. but they weren’t in a comfortable enough setting for that. So, instead, he pulled back slightly, eyes softening.
Kasey looked up at him, her eyes still brimming with elated tears. She ran her thumbs over his cheeks and reached up to peck his lips again.
"Thank you," she whispered as she looking into his enchanting eyes. "Thank you for this."
“Thank you,” he whispered fiercely, “For saying yes. And for wanting to say ‘I do’.”
Kasey grinned at his words. She wanted to say 'I do'. Desperately so. Nothing would stop her from it.
"I will always say yes, and I will always want to say 'I do," she breathed, moving her hands from his arms to his wrists.
Barry lifted both her hands to his lips, brushing them across the knuckles. “Lucky you, you’ll have your chance pretty soon~”
Kasey pushed herself up onto her tiptoes to press a quick, soft kiss to Barry's lips. "I can't wait. Oh, gosh, Barr… I'm going to be your wife!" she laughed elatedly.
Barry nuzzled her cheek lightly, indicating to her seat. “I can’t wait either….” he murmured, “Sit, love. When we’re done eating, we can cuddle at home.
Kasey took a deep breath and leaned into him for a moment longer before reluctantly pulling away. “Okay. Let’s finish our dessert and go home,” she breathed.
"It's a deal," he chuckled, seating himself once more. "I still can't grasp the fact that we're getting married…"
“Oh, gosh…” Kasey breathed, wide-eyed as she looked over at him. “Oh my gosh, Barry, I’m going to be Kasey Lawrence.”
