Edonine lifted herself on her toes to kiss him.

Pierre molded his mouth to hers, soft and gentle. "You are my world…"

"I wish we could marry right now," Edonine whispered.

He wrapped his arms snugly around her waist. "I do to.. it'll happen as soon as possible, I promise. Who do you want to invite?"

"Nobody. Just us. I have no family,"

He nodded in understanding. "Delta can be the bridesmaid."

She giggled a little. "Okay."

"And Cruz will be my best man." A spike of pain speared his heart at the mention of his best friend. "And we can invite Geoffrey and his family. And—And Louis. If he—If he ever gets back."

"Yes.." she murmured back.

Pierre cleared his throat and nodded again, blinking rapidly to dispel the tears that had suddenly pricked his eyes.

"Hey.." she spoke, feeling his breath hitch with emotion. "It'll be okay.."

He could only bob his head in agreement, pressing his mouth into a thin line.

"I love you.." Edonine spoke softly.

"I love you, too," he answered in a hoarse, quiet voice.

She rubbed her hand over his chest in lazy circles, "My love.."

He pressed against her hand, finding solace in the simple touch.

The entire camp was awake before the sun, in feverish preparation. They were to leave at noon.

Pierre inhaled deeply, tugging anxiously at each of his sleeves. "You ready?" he called to Edonine, masking the tremor in his voice with a quiet cough,

"As I can manage." She replied, her sore arms shaking. Would she be able to hold a rifle like that?

He nodded in response, turning and dipping his head to clasp their lips together. "You'll be fine. We'll be fine."

His kiss caught her a little by surprise, in a good way. It still made her smile and turn to mush, knowing he loved her.

He pulled away and tried for a weak smile. “Love you.”

"I love you too!" She exclaimed.

He slipped his hand over her cheek to cup her jaw, his eyes shining with a conflicting combination of affection and tears.

"What are you upset for…?" She whispered. "Cruz?"

Dragging you into this. He exhaled through his nose. "I just want this war to be over…. I just want to settle down with you and be safe…."

She looked down. "Me too, Pierre.. me too."

He pulled her close and pressed a loving kiss to her forehead.
