Barry shook his head once. “I’ll be fine. And, before I forget—“ He steadied himself, glancing down at her left hand. “The ring. I—I need it for today.”
Barry shook his head once. “I’ll be fine. And, before I forget—“ He steadied himself, glancing down at her left hand. “The ring. I—I need it for today.”
Kasey blinked and pulled away further. She gave him a curious look, the edges of her lips turning down as she slowly pulled the ring from her finger.
"Okay… Sure," she sighed, handing it to him, albeit reluctantly.
Barry kissed her softly, enclosing the ring in his fingers.
"Can I ask why you need it?" Kasey murmured against his lips before kissing him back.
“Patience, love,” he breathed shakily into the kiss.
Kasey pulled back and sighed, resting her forehead against his as she let her eyes fall shut. "Okay."
(Lol. Sure.
Not it, btw.)
(Wait one sec, I’ll dm you a question)
(Okie doke)
[TIME SKIP - a few days later]
Barry sighed slowly, seating himself on the couch and pulling out his phone. The house was quiet, empty (save for the cat) since Kasey was in class. And, because he wasn’t allowed to leave the house, he figured that he should take advantage of his time alone and finish the job he’d started a month ago.
After a tense, anxious pause, he selected Harper’s number and raised the phone to his ear.
Harper set down the book he’d been studying and picked up his phone from the small table beside the couch. He raised his eyebrows at the name on the screen before answering.
“Hey, Barry. What’s up?”
Barry’s stomach twisted into a knot. “Hey, Harper,” he greeted quietly, “Atr you busy? Sorry for the last minute call, but I… I need to talk to you about something. Is there any way you can come over? Just quickly—“
Harper closed his book and set it on the coffee table. He stood, curious about what Barry could want to talk to him about.
“Sure, I can come over. I was just getting some studying done, but I needed a break, anyway,” he said as he made his way to the door. “I’ll be there in a few.”
“Thanks..” Barry murmured and hung up.
A few minutes later, Harper stepped up to the apartment door. He knocked, then stuck his hand in his pocket as he waited for Barry to open it.
Barry made his way unsteadily to the front door when he heard a loud knock and opened it to receive Harper. “Hey,” he greeted quietly. It was clear that he was nervous—but what for?
Harper gave the younger man a small smile, raising a curious eyebrow. “Hey. You good?” he asked as he stepped inside. “How’s… ya know, your stomach…?”
“I’m good,” he answered, scratching the back of his head. “Come in, how are you?”
“That’s good. I’m doing well, thanks,” Harper hummed as he glanced around the apartment. He turned his attention back to Barry and cocked his head slightly, sticking by hands in his front pockets. “How’re you and Kasey?”
Barry lead him over to the couch. “We’re doing well. Really well.”
(*led, not lead. Lol.)
Harper hummed and sat down, folding his hands in his lap. “So what did you want to talk to me about?”
(Whoops)
Barry swallowed anxiously and pulled a ring from his pocket. “I’m guessing that Kasey told you about finding this?”
Harper’s eyes flashed down to the small ring, and he raised an eyebrow. “She did. And she also seemed like she didn’t want to ever take it off. How did you manage to get it back?”
“I asked for it,” he murmured, glancing away. “Because—Well. I wanted to propose properly. But to do that….”
Barry took a deep breath, as if preparing himself. “Harper, I’m asking for your permission to marry Kasey. You’re the closest relative she’s got, and—and I didn’t think it would be right to just..”
Harper’s gaze softened on the young man, and he offered him a gentle smile. “Are you sure you’re ready for that? You’ll be marrying a literal super hero. And she’s a very special one, especially since she’s my baby sister.”
For the first time since he'd opened the door, Barry answered with confidence. "Yes," he said, "I'm sure that I'm ready. She's Kasey—the fact that she's a superhero would never change my decision."
“And if she says no?” Harper questioned, crossing one ankle over the opposite knee and leaning forward on them.
"She told me that she would have said yes," he murmured, "Back when we were both being held by Hectic. But if she says no, I would back off. It's her choice, and I'm okay with whatever she chooses."
Harper looked over at Barry with a deep seriousness in his eyes. He sighed and glanced up at the ceiling before turning back to Barry.
“When you marry her, what will you do? How do you plan on taking care of her? And, in the future, your kids?” he wondered. “Because I’m sure she’ll want kids.”
