"So." Teresa mused. "You would take advantage of another young one… Gavin." She said the name with disgust.
"So." Teresa mused. "You would take advantage of another young one… Gavin." She said the name with disgust.
Luca stayed silent. His brothers death wasn't something that he or his family talked about a lot. If it weren't for the photos of him in the house, no one would even know that Bruno existed.
Cece composed herself. “Sorry. Are you okay?” she asked, noticing Luca’s silence.
"Yeah. I'm fine." Luca responded almost instinctively.
A dark shape zoomed in front of her face. Thinking it was just a piece of garbage or something, she tried to swat it away. It hit her hand and sent an electric shockwave up her arm, leaving her paralyzed. She cried out and fell off the car onto the road. Regaining the ability to move, she pulled the thing off and looked at it. Then, she swore under her breath, spread her wings and flew after the others as fast as she could. She needed to warn them before it was too late.
Cece stopped the car when she heard a thump. She unbuckled her seatbelt and got out, looking for the source of the noise.
Luca looked up. "What happened?" He didn't get out of the car, but he unbuckled his seat belt and looked around.
Teresa watched the car stop and the boy and one of the girls, she didn't know what her name was, get out of the car. Another black shape was speeding toward them. "Duck!" She yelled, knowing that she wouldn't get there in time.
Luca did as Teresa said, recognizing her voice. He hunched over and covered his head, peeking up to see what he was avoiding.
Cece did as she was told and crouched down, looking above her at what she needed to duck for. She looked at Teresa with a confused look on her face when she didn’t see anything.
"Sorry." Teresa panted, coming over to them and seeing their confused looks. "It was just that… never mind. A word from the wise: Don't talk about Gavin where someone can overhear. He sent one of his charms at me. I won't be able to us my powers for a little while. One was flying toward you and I didn't want the same thing to happen to you."
“Charms?” Cece questioned.
"You see, I know who poisoned your brother." She looked at Luca. "I know his real name. His name is Jordan. And he's… my…" She sighed. She'd better get this out. "He's my brother."
Luca stared at her blankly, trying not to let his emotions lash out at her. "…Right."
"Sorry. I'm not like him. Last time I saw him, we had a fight. I told him not to keep poisoning young magic wielders. Apparently he didn't listen." She sighed. "Typical."
Typical… Luca repeated in his mind, turning around in his seat and buckling up again. She acts as if this is normal behavior… He stared ahead, not saying a word.
Cece stood up, her mind buzzing. “Did your brother work for an inventor?” she asked. She looked at Teresa, then at Luca, then back at Teresa.
"I think he did, yes, now that I think about it. And a potion master, and a museum director, AND he was an actor. He did a lot of things and worked for a lot of people." She said.
"Come on, it's not safe here. Let's go to the dump where we can talk in relative peace." She said, and flew to the top of the car again.
"Yeah, this place isn't safe." Ashria said.
Luca nodded. "Mhm. Let's go." His voice was a lot quieter than normal.
Teresa looked at Luca. She probably shouldn't have said so much about her brother. She should have known. That would be another person who didn't trust her because she was related the this… maniac.
"You should sit in the car, I don't want you to get shot again. This was more than a coincidence." She didn't want Teresa to get hurt, she was one of few people who accepted her.
Luca sighed, leaning back in his seat and running his fingers over the journal in his jacket.
"Guys!" Teresa yelled suddenly. "How long are we going to stay at the dump?"
Luca jumped at her exclamation. "Dunno." He responded simply.
"We should probably not stay there for very long, just saying." She said.
"Let's just go straight to Cece's dad." Luca stated, looking over at her as he said it.
"What's wrong with Cece's dad?'
Ashira shrugged in response to Teresa's question.
