“Well…” Barry trailed off, giving a sheepish smile. “I’ll be fine once I’ve eaten ice cream and pancakes.”
“Well…” Barry trailed off, giving a sheepish smile. “I’ll be fine once I’ve eaten ice cream and pancakes.”
Kasey snorted and smiled over at him. “If you say so. Now, let’s go make those pancakes. Mind grabbing me a big bowl and the flour?”
“Not at all,” he answered, nearly toppling over in the process of fetching what she’d asked for.
“Barr… Maybe you should go sit down?” Kasey suggested softly, sighing a little.
Barry shook his head, plopping the flour onto the countertop. "I'll be fine, don't worry about me."
Kasey looked over at him softly before crossing the kitchen to wrap her arms around his middle. “I’ll always worry about you. A worried girlfriend comes with dating a superhero,” she joked with a small smirk.
"If anything, I should be the worried one," he answered playfully, "Because my girlfriend runs around stopping supervillains."
Kasey rolled her eyes with a small smile as she looked up at him. “I do try not to do that, though. It complicated things.”
"Either way.." Barry offered a lopsided smile. "Are we going to make these pancakes or not?"
“Yeah, yeah,” Kasey laughed lightly, reaching up to peck his lips quickly before moving to finish. “Also we need vanilla, eggs, and…” she listed the rest of the ingredients they would need to make the pancakes as she grabbed some of them herself.
They worked together to round up the ingredients and got to work. At some point, Barry had to sit down, and Kasey did most of the work, but…….. it was nice. To do something together again.
Kasey flipped the last pancake and let it finish cooking before she set it on the stack. She picked it up to carry it over to the table, placing the plate down in the center of the table.
“I’ll go grab the ice cream,” she said with a smile. “Be back in a second.”
Barry gave a small nod and rose from his stool, making his way unsteadily towards the table. "Do we have chocolate sauce?"
"Do we ever not have chocolate sauce?" Kasey asked teasingly as she made her way back into the kitchen. She grabbed the tub of ice cream and the container of sauce before walking back into the dining room.
“Good point,” Barry chuckled, shifting in his seat. “Are we all set?”
Kasey pressed a quick kiss to the side of his head before sitting down. She knew she might be acting a little strangely with all the kisses, but she really just wanted to make the most of ther time together. If there was one thing she'd learned yesterday, it was that you never knew when something might happen to you or someone you care about.
"Yup. All set," she confirmed as she took a couple of pancakes for herself.
“Fantastic,” Barry chuckled, and proceeded to scoop an enormous spoonful of ice cream onto his plate.
“We’re going to be so sick after this,” Kasey laughed as she drizzled chocolate syrup over her pancakes. “This is a lot of sugar…”
Barry scoffed. "Please, I can handle this. Besides, it'll help with my healing process. You're my doctor. Doctor's orders."
“Hey, I definitely didn’t say you had to eat this to get better. I mean, it’ll definitely help you feel better, but I’m pretty sure this is terrible for us,” Kasey laughed before taking a bite.
"Shhh, no it isn't," he whisper-laughed, before spooning an enormous bite of pancake, chocolate, and ice cream into his mouth. "Yum."
Kasey grinned over at him happily and took another bite of her food. She hummed before looking back at Barry. “So… How have your classes been?”
Barry seesawed a hand. "I've been staying on top of everything, but it sort of feels like I'm constantly flying by the seat of my pants. You?"
“Hm, yeah… Uh….. Not so well, honestly,” Kasey admitted quietly, looking down at her food. “That’s one of the reasons I’ve been so stressed out lately…”
Barry reached over the table to take her hand. "I'm sorry… if you ever need any help, don't hesitate to ask me. Are your professors understanding?"
“They don’t really know about it,” Kasey admitted with a small shrug, squeezing his hand gently. “I’ve been getting by, passing everything, but it’s just really hard…”
"Do you know why?" he asked tentatively, squeezing back, "Any particular reasons?"
Kasey sighed and thought over it while eating a bite of pancakes. “I think… I think it’s just self-inflicted stress. I’m just overthinking everything…”
“Relax every moment you get,” he counseled, clearly worried. “Please, love, don’t overwork yourself.”
"I'll try," Kasey promised quietly, looking back up at him with a small smile. She shifted her hand in his so that she could intertwine their fingers, glad for even just his presence.
