“Come sit.” Gwen softly patted the ground next to her. “This is where I come when I’m stressed sometimes.

Marla did as she was told, her body moving as if pulled by marionette strings. "It's… nice. Peaceful."
“Yeah… clears my head.” Gwen muttered, feeling weak in comparison to the horrors they’d witnessed earlier. “So you’ve never heard of a peryton before?”
Marla shook her head, entangling her fingers with Gwen’s and overlapping their legs slightly.
(I only found out about them like a week ago so here’s someone’s drawings of them which I think are the most accurate to what I’m thinking. You can ignor etheir notes though: https://pin.it/3wjhx42d23y3qq )
Gwen paused as she heard rustling in the branches, her eyes lighting up. “Hold on. I think they’re coming.” She whispered excitedly.
(Oh dw, I know what they are, Marla just doesn’t
Cool pin, tho 😊)
Marla did her best to muster some excitement, following Gwen’s line of site.
(I waste so much time on Pinterest lmao)
One flew down from the trees. A fawn with elegant sparrow-like wings. It landed towards the edge of the clearing, warily taking a few steps towards the girls. Gwen broke into a wide smile.
(Same tho)
For a moment, Marla’s face was alight with childish wonder, her pained features softening. “Whoah…”
Gwen lightly squeezed Marla’s hand and grew a few dandelions at their feet. She ripped them up, handing the clump to Marla. “They like to eat them. Hold it out and it’ll come over.”
Marla extended her arm, hand quivering slightly as she held the yellow flowers out to the elegant creatures up ahead. “They’re so beautiful…”
“I thought you might like them.” Gwen replied softly, watching the fawn creep closer to Marla as it gained courage.
“Hey, there,” she greeted the animal softly, her voice gaining more positive emotion than it had since the incident.
Gwen remained silent, happy to hear Marla’s voice become cheerful. The small peryton bleated, stumbling forward on its spindly legs, not quite used to walking yet. It leaned forward and began to nibble on the flowers in Marla’s hand.
Marla’s shattered heart thawed, pieces drawing together just a little. Carefully, she took a step closer, almost spellbound.
“You can pet it.” Gwen prompted gently. “They’re pretty good about not biting.”
She slowly ran her fingers through the creature’s soft fur, taking careful steps closer. The dandelions in her hand were gone by now, devoured, but she still didn’t back away,
The fawn stumbled a little before stretching out its wings to catch it’s balance. It seemed to enjoy Marla’s soft touch and turned to the side, requesting wing scratches.
Marla gladly accepted the invitation, running her fingers through the soft secondary feathers. “You’re cute…” she murmured softly.
The fawn bleated softly, nuzzling Marla. The nuns of growing antlers could be seen on his head. Gwen sat silently, not wanting to disturb the pair.
“He or she?” Marks asked Gwen over her shoulder, kneeling down in the grass. She continued to stroke the fawn, eyes widened by amazement.
“It’s a male. Only the males grow antlers.” Gwen smiled. Soon enough the rest came flying down, larger doe and stag sized creatures with wings of different patterns and colors.
“They’re so beautiful…” Marla whispered, awe largely dominating her features.
“Aren’t they?” Gwen smiled, walking up to one of the larger creatures with her hand extended.
Marla carefully beckoned to one of them, shaking strands of platinum hair out of her face. “Hey, there…”
A fully grown male, the largest of the group, strode towards Marla. It’s ivory color antlers branching out like a tree. It bowed as a greeting, spreading its large wings out.
At first, Marla took a tiny step back out of fear, but her confidence was quickly regained when she took in the serene manner of the creature. She extended a hand towards it, slow and hesitant.
It pressed its wet nose against her hand, making a soft noise akin to a whinny. Gwen smiled. “I think they like you.”
Marla let out an awed gasp, positioning herself closer to the animal in order to hesitantly our het arms around it.
It wrapped its wings around Marla, careful to avoid accidentally goring her with its antlers. Gwen silently took out her phone, turning the flash off and snapping a picture.
Marla leaned lightly against it, burying her face in its soft fur. “This is amazing:..”
