I did that with Althalos l. I had a Prophecy Child™ but it was actually his twin sister. (They were mislead by the term man.)

It's the best way to add intrigue and an interesting way to explore character development.

OH NO. You shall NOT use my love Faramir against me!! He is perfect despite his crippling daddy issues and inferiority complex to his brother.

But he never let either influence his character. And only once did it cloud his judgement. And that was when he decided to obey an order.

If he acted on it, it still counts as a character flaw. One that he overcomes with grace and dignity and general badassery

And that flaw makes him even more perfect because one, he is not perfect from the start. And two, every day he must conquer what he feels in order to be a great person/leader. Which he does with supreme excellency.

I agreeeeeee. His flaws are good flaws. You will never ever hear me say that Faramir is not perfect in all ways.

Villains/antagonists who aren't killed as resolution of the conflict, but don't necessarily get a redemption arc either.

But where do they go?

Prison?

Hiding?

The one I have in mind is that they lose, either tactically, or in a fight against the protagonist, and they're just defeated to the point that they have no more will to fight. Obviously depends on the nature of your antagonist, but idk… seeing them die or be redeemed gets kind of old and predictable.
