Brie closed her eyes to quickly come up with a plausible answer for Ella. She wasn't hearing much of the conversation going around with everyone else.
"I… um… live with my…" she searched for a lie desperately, "my dog and parents in town?" she asked, accidentally making her answer sound like a question.
ella gently whispered to brie you can tell me the truth.
so no one els would hear.
"But then why bring me along?" Helen asked. "I don't have powers. I'm not even very helpful."
Brie's heart hammered in her chest. She could trust Ella, couldn't she? Still, years of secrets were hard to bring out into the open…
"When we're alone," she whispered almost to herself.
But her heart rate wouldn't slow down, and her head suddenly felt foggy. She looked around at everyone. They were laughing, talking. Suddenly, all at once, waves of emotion took over Brie: anger, fear, confusion, sadness, suspicion, enthusiasm, kindness. Years of suppression of her powers had only made them stronger, and sometimes they completely overwhelmed her. This was one of those times. She paled and bit her lip and squeezed her eyes shut, balling her hands into fists on her lap.
She concentrated on what Helen was saying: No powers, not helpful…
ella could tell brie was really overwhelmed.
its okay I'm here.
she whispered
gently squeezing brie's hand.
trying to calm her down.
(excuse me) (can someone please) (answer my questions)
Brie found comfort in Ella's touch, and she converted all her concentration to the cool grip on her hand, taking deep breaths.
"So how long is it going to take for us to be able to control our powers?" Brie asked Bia finally, eyes still closed. To her surprise, her voice didn't even shake.
(I want to but I also want @shriek to. (Sorry I'm too lazy to spell the whole username out.))
Watching Brie curiously, he cast his senses into her thought process. It took a lot of concentration but always came in handy. But what he saw startled him, and he pulled back immediately. "B-brie? You alright?"
Brie's eyes flew open. Samuel was looking at her. "Fine," she said softly, forcing aloofness into her voice.
Bia turned around in her seat to talk to Brie. "It depends on the person. But it really just depends on whether or not you are willing to learn, and willing to let me teach you. And," she added, mostly for Brie's benefit,"You need to be open to me. You can't hide secrets about your powers or how you are feeling. I realize that this can be a little nerve-racking and new for you, but I want to give you the chance to be completely honest with me. I don't feel comfortable with reading people's mind without their consent."
Brie just looked at Bia. "I can do that." she said. And to her surprise, she meant it.
Samuel knew she was lying but let the subject drop, choosing instead to take in everyone else's thoughts. It was also a fun activity to do when bored, now being a perfect example.
ella was listening Anxiously moving uncomfortable in her seat.
Bia noticed that Samuel was trying to read everyone else's thoughts. "Samuel." She conveyed telepathically, "Don't do that. You're abusing your powers not to mention invading everyone else's privacy." She tossed him a book over Helen's head. Out lound she said, "Try reading this. And where are you staying? Do you have some stuff that you would like to pick up?"
Brie felt Ella shift around beside her. "You ok?" she inquired.
"YOU'VE BEEN… THUNDERSTRUCK" Blasting in Archia's headphones he looks at Bia… He can lip read what she's saying he's gotten pretty good after blasting music and refusing to turn it off so he knows about the powers thing. I mean how hard is it to control power's he's had it for years and his dad taught him how to control it it 's just that she's still floating around in his head. "I don't think they can help me with that" he thinks to himself.
Sorry, I just wanted to figure things out without… you know, actually socializing, He replied to Bia in his mind. "Stuff?" He stared off distantly, a string of emotions- scared, excited, anxious, relieved- rolled across his face like a silent thunderstorm. "No, I"m fine."
Bia stood up, walked over to Archia and pulled his headphones off his head. "Archia. I have superhearing and you are blasting your music. Please turn it down."
ella replied
s-sorta o-of
just worried.
she didn't lie to brie but wasn't ready to tell her the whole story yet.
Brie nodded.
"Does anyone mind if I take out music?" she asked around. She needed some quiet. A nice string of Imagine Dragons songs would calm her right down.
Bia turned back to Brie. "Sure! Just don't turn it up too lound."
"Depends. What type? I mean, not that I have any room to talk… Umm… nevermind." Samuel buried his face into the book again, embarrased.
"It's Imagine Dragons," she told Sam before plugging in her earphones and scrolling down the playlist. 'It's Time' will do perfectly, Brie thought to herself. She closed her eyes and leaned her head back against the seat.
Samuel listened wistfully as one of his favourite songs leaked through her earbuds and danced on the stuffy, dusty air to his sunburnt ears. He began humming along in his mind, the music soothing him as much as it soothed Brie.
Brie heard light humming coming from across her. She smiled inwardly.
"I have an earphone splitter if you want, Samuel." she said without moving.
ella sat in her seat trying hard to stay calm..
trying to ignore the fact she was really overwhelmed.
she didn't want anyone to know why.
"Oh? I don't have any earbuds…."
Brie threw Samuel a pair of earbuds, and gently settled her hand on Ella's arm, because she seemed stressed about something.
"uhhhh" Archia looks at Bia. Turning it down he apologizes "sorry about that, quick question on a scale of one to ten how powerful do you think you are compared to the rest of the group?"
