"What?" She whispered back quietly, as not to disturb the fragile quiet.

"I don't know…" he mumbled, curling himself around her like a protective shell. "Something."

Edonine held onto his arm. For a long while she was silent, and then she spoke. "Would you ever marry me?"

He didn't have to think about his answer, not even for a fraction of a second. "Yes. A hundred times yes. If you'd take me."

"I would take you." She whispered back, squeezing his arm.

A ray of sunshine seemed to cut through the horror and exhaustion of the week. "Maybe when this war is over.. when we can have a proper wedding.."

Edonine smiled slowly. "I think… I think I would not be afraid of intimacy if it was at your hand." She whispered.

At this, Pierre's eyes widened considerably, two brown saucers in the dark. "Oh– you wouldn't?"

"No," she replied with candid honesty. "I love you so much– you can't make me afraid," she rolled over to face him. "I trust you completely," she held his face.

Pierre's face softened, as did his heart. "Edonine…" he whispered, "What did I do to deserve you?"

She smiled flatteredly, "Well, you got struck by lightning, most obviously~"

He chuckled quietly, plopping an affectionate kiss on her nose. "True, very true."

"Nothing," he replied, kissing her cheek.

"Mmm… Are you sure?" Jane hummed.

She hummed softly, "I love you,"

Pierre held her as close as he could, burying his face in her hair. “I love you too.”

She closed her eyes. She felt at peace.

Pierre felt himself drifting off, and let his limbs relax.
