"I was trying to protect you!" she cried, more emotion in her voice than ever before.
"I was trying to protect you!" she cried, more emotion in her voice than ever before.
"protect me?" he looked around the room, feeling it getting smaller "From what? Demitri?" he shook his head "what's he going to do to me that he hasn't done already? kill me? let him" he walked away from her, needing to calm himself before he lost his temper for good
Her heart sunk. In a brief moment of anger, she threw her sketchbook at the wall. It fell to the floor, it's paper limbs splayed out. From the carnage, the only visible drawing was the black lace dress. Nathalie rushed off shamefully to her room, where she fell quickly into a haunting sleep. Nightmares haunted her, and now Gabriel was in them. She tossed and turned, trying to soothe herself. Nothing worked.
he walked back to the living room and sat down. Needing to breath "good job Gabriel…" he sighed and walked back to her room and knocked gently "Love? we need to talk." the door opened slightly. he saw the sketchbook strewn across the floor and Natalie in a bundle of tangled blankets. Despite his mood, he smiled lightly and fixed the blankets around her. He stroked her brow gently for a few mesmerizing seconds before retreating to his office and getting back to work
Nathalie was restless for the rest of the night. Her eyes would flutter open, then she would be asleep before she could even be awake. Her visions tortured her.
Gabriel ended up falling asleep at his desk after a long night of working. the dream of Demitri and Natalie together torture him for the little time he managed to drift off
Nathalie woke amongst well-tended blankets. Gabriel… she thought adoringly, then the memories from last night washed over her.
Gabriel stayed asleep, for once that night, sleeping for more than five minutes
Slowly, Nathalie moved through the house to find him, eventually wandering into the study. Gabriel was asleep. She smiled hazily and walked over, keeping her steps soft and quiet.
he mumbling something intangible as he slept, occasionally begging no and saying her nickname
Nathalie froze, a shocked look on her face. "Gabriel?" she said softly, approaching him and gently rubbing his back. "Gabriel, wake up."
he jumped back and blinked rapidly. After a few moments, he stood and without a word, he hugged her tight "please, don't leave….please, love, I'm begging you. don't do this." he whispered into her ear "we'll figure something out. Just don't leave."
Nathalie was shocked. For a split second, she remained stiff. Then she relaxed against him. "I would never leave you, Gabriel. I just wanted to keep you safe. If anything happened to you that I could've stopped… I wouldn't be able to forgive myself."
"You can't stop death, love. It's bound to happen to all of us." he said "We'll find a way out of this." he told her, not wanting to let her go
"How? Dimitri doesn't know that you know of his plan with me, yet…" she said thoughtfully, breathing his scent in deeply. It filled her lungs and warmed her.
"exactly, and the less he knows about what I know, the better." He thought for a moment "show me the drawings you've done so far for him."
"You'll have to let me go first," she murmured, blushing slightly.
he shook his head and smiled "not a chance."
She closed her eyes and completely relaxed against him. Her heart didn't feel quite as weighted down now.
he smiled "I'm sorry about last night…." he murmured against her ear
"No, I'm sorry," she replied, her blush returning. "What do you have to apologize for?"
"yelling, getting mad without letting you explain." he said with shame
She kissed his temple lightly. "It's alright," she whispered.
he smiled lightly "it's not." he reluctantly let her go "what do you want for breakfast?"
"It is," she assured him. "What would you like to have?"
he looked at her but desided not to argue "I was thinking of making crepes and croissants"
Her eyes sparkled. "That sounds wonderful."
he nodded and headed to the kitchen
Nathalie hurried up to her room and retrieved her sketchbook from the floor. She smoothed the pages and walked into the kitchen.
he was covered in flour by the time he saw her come in "all in a matter of five minutes, can you believe it?"
