"I need to get my books," Melissa piped up once she paid and they left the shop.

Rey followed Melissa out of the shop and started walking towards Flourish and Blotts behind her. He checked the time. He had plenty of time for this. Besides, they'd probably be hitting some of the same shops.

"I need to get my books," Melissa piped up once she paid and they left the shop.

Rey followed Melissa out of the shop and started walking towards Flourish and Blotts behind her. He checked the time. He had plenty of time for this. Besides, they'd probably be hitting some of the same shops.

Melissa tried to make herself small to fit through the crowd, but she kept getting jostled around. "Excuse me," she whispered repeatedly – not that anyone could hear her.

@Becfromthedead group

Rey took the opposite approach and helped Melissa cut through the crowd right behind him instead of making it so she'd have to slip through the small places between people.

Gratefully, Melissa followed his lead, which made it incredibly easier for her to walk. "Thank you," she said quietly, but it was lost in the crowd. She'd tell him later.

Rey looked around for any titles he remembered from first year. He lead Melissa to a couple of shelves on one side of the store that had some of the books she might need.
"Alright, this should get you started. What else?"

Deleted user

"I do believe I still need Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," she said, remembering the list. "By Newt Scamander."

@Becfromthedead group

"Ah, yeah… I think that's gonna be two shelves over. That's where I got my Care of Magical Creatures book for this year," Rey said, inching closer to where he had indicated.

She followed him, making sure she had what she needed from the section they were in first. Her eyes sparkled at all of the books lining the shelves. "I love to read," she murmured, trailing her fingers over the spines.

@Becfromthedead group

"Me too," Rey said, "You know what I love even more, though? Writing. There's nothing quite like telling the story that you want to read."
He smiled.
"I can let you borrow a few of my old novels to read once we're at school. I've actually gone out and bought some muggle books as well as wizard ones. They're all so fascinating. Sure, the Hogwarts library is massive, but they don't exactly have books filled with stories outside of our world."

"Pardon," she purred shyly, "but what's your blood-type?" She almost immediately turned deep rouge after the question passed through her lips. "You don't have to answer," she added, almost frantically.

@Becfromthedead group

"Hm? My lineage? Both of my parents are wizards, but I'm a half-blood. Not by much. We have a few muggles way down the line. Haven't met any of them," Rey explained, "I'm just very interested in cultures and worldviews of others, is all."

Melissa nodded. "Sorry," she whispered, clutching The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1 to her chest.

@Becfromthedead group

"Don't be sorry. It's natural to be curious. Blood is part of what makes us wizards who we are, and most of us take pride in it, whether we be muggle-born, pure blood, or anywhere in between," Rey said.
"Hey, you got all those books? They look a little heavy."

Deleted user

"I'm fine," she replied. However, she looked like her legs were about to give out from the weight. "I think I still need one more…"

When Melissa wasn't looking, Rey cast a little charm on her books to lighten the load.
He looked at the spines of her books to see what might be missing.
"Magical Drafts and Potions?" he asked.

Deleted user

"Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger… yes," she said, looking around for it. Her eyes darted around, scanning the many intriguing titles.

@Becfromthedead group

"Mm… there." Rey pointed at a row of books that was a little above the height of Melissa's knees.
He looked over to the line. Only about three people were waiting to pay at the moment. It could be much worse.

Deleted user

Slowly, she set her stack of books down and reached for the new one to put it on top. "There. Eight books…" She sounded tired already.

@Becfromthedead group

"After you pay, you should put some of those books in your cauldron. It'll be much easier to carry them that way," Rey suggested.
He would have helped more, but he already had so much of his own supplies to juggle, he didn't think he could take any more.

Deleted user

Melissa nodded. "That's a good idea." She slowly picked up her stack and shuffled over to the line.

@Hufflepuff_Girl

Luna tugged at Leo's jacket. "Leo, we need to go!" Luna half yelled.
"What, oh right, see ya at Hogwarts boys." With that Leo and Luna headed off towards the train station so they could get back to their father.

@Becfromthedead group

Rey moved just behind Melissa to the line and waited for her to pay for her books. He silently wondered where else they would need to go. She already had her wand, her potions supplies, her books…
"You still need a telescope, right? And do you need your robes still?"

Deleted user

She looked back at him. "Yes and yes." She reached the front of the line and quickly paid for her things, doing as little talking as possible.

Cassandra gently frowned as she looked at her watch. Madame Malkin was taking more time than usual, and if she didn’t hurry, then she would be late for meeting her father in the Leaky Cauldron. Oh well, he can afford a few minutes.

@Hufflepuff_Girl

"What station did daddy say to meet him at again?" Luna asked, as Leo dragged her through the crowd.
"I believe he said ten. Luna I need your hand so I don't lose you among the muggles." Leo reached to take her hand.
"You believe, I thought you knew for sure!" Luna yelped taking her brother's hand.

Deleted user

After this, Rey suggested they go to Madame Malkin's to get robes. The telescope should be easy, so he figured that would be better put last.

Melissa looked at him. "Alright." Her books were stacked in her cauldron, but she still had to carry a few in her arms, making her look very short – shorter than she already was.
