Valerie cursed and helped Aubrey out of the net, then took a shortcut to follow Cato. She skidded to a stop into a hall, watching him round the corner.
“Seriously?” Cato grumbled, skidding to a halt. He faced Valerie in the hallway, the two a few yards apart.
“Morning,” she said, holding her sword in a defensive stance.
“It’s actually late afternoon, early evening at this point,” Cato replied conversationally, holding his scythe at the ready.
“It’s morning if you want to make it Morning,” she said, flicking her wrist a little to alter the Mist.
“Yep, I’ve heard about that mist-y stuff. But I work in hard reality, so… yeah. Are we gonna spar again or not?” Cato tied the banner around his shoulders and waited.
“Sure,” she said, running at him.
Except not really.
Cause Mist.
But he doesn’t know that!
(Ok)
Cato swung at Valerie, but when his sword parted the mist-vision-thing, he immediately hopped to the side, pressing himself flat against the hallway’s wall. Valerie’s sword flew by, missing him by inches.
She hissed, and raised her sword, actually sparring with him now. She did her best to make distractions with the Mist, but they were at best weak.
At one point, the banner on Cato’s back was ripped off, spiraling away and hanging itself limply over a torch bracket on the wall. Cato groaned internally as his braced foot throbbed, threatening to give out, but on the outside he was as determined as ever.
Valerie, in a last ditch attempt at the Mist, faked her dropping her sword and falling, using the chance to get behind Cato.
At that moment, Cato’s ankle collapsed, sending him flailing backwards and on top of Valerie. He groaned out loud this time, but not out of annoyance or humiliation: pain. Cato’s vision doubled as waves of white-hot agony washed over him.
Valerie dragged him up, sword at his neck. She couldn’t kill, but it was a cool show. “Off we go,” she muttered, grabbing the banner down and pulling them back to the room.
Cato passed out, his last thought being: Please don’t let the brace cut off my blood flow again. That would suck. And I’d have no foot.
(See there was too much excitement happening so now Cato is a dork.)
(Where are they? Aurelia is just kind of chilling on the sidelines, and now it looks like she's needed.)
(Aurelia should go save Cato.)
(Ya. An out of the way hallway. But I was thinking that Cato’s twisted foot thing is cursed so it can’t be healed, the pain can only be suppressed. I’ll have him say that at some point.)
//yes
She brought Cato to the sidelines. “We’re gonna need a medic!” She called.

//isn’t he out of the game now
Is that not how this works
(Idk what to do w/ Aubrey rn)
(I guess have the healer try and fail but bring him back to consciousness?)
(Aight i gots to go)
//bye
Aurelia rushed forward to Cato. She looked at Valerie, then back to Cato. She helped get him farther out of the way. He was unconscious, so she tried to see if she could get him to wake back up by calling his name a couple of times.
“I’ve got to get back to the game, take care of him, yeah? I don’t know what really triggered him passing out, but he stumbled a little, looked in pain, then passed out.”
"Maybe he's just fainted. It's possible to faint from pain. I'll try to figure things out. Go on and finish the game," Aurelia responded. She unclipped the flask of nectar on her hip and poured a little bit of it into Cato's mouth.
"Gods… what happened?" she wondered aloud.
“Good question,” she muttered. “Bye!”
The haze over Cato’s mind lifted slightly, but he was still out of it. He could once again feel his throbbing foot.
