Lenny smiled and nodded. She gently took the book from Levi, and flipped through it. "Is it weird and unrealistic that this is the exact book we need?" she asked, looking up. "Like, the exact thing."
Lenny smiled and nodded. She gently took the book from Levi, and flipped through it. "Is it weird and unrealistic that this is the exact book we need?" she asked, looking up. "Like, the exact thing."
Levi pointed up to the creatures above them. "They must know their dark magic."
Smiling, Lenny sat down and leaned against the bookshelf. "Its seriously everything you need to know about the dark magic of Umbra's."
Levi sat down next to her and read over her shoulder. He nervously looked at her. "Are you sure we'll be able to beat this thing? From what I've read so far, it doesn't seem easy."
Lenny sighed. "Its going to be insanely hard, and we're gonna come back with bruises and cuts and broken bones. But its beatable." she confirmed.
Levi sighed, leaning back. He groaned. "I've been so careful not to get hurt…"
Lenny laughed softly. "Almost everybody else has," she pointed out.
"Yeah, and I'm the one that has to take them to the hospital afterwards. If I get hurt, you'll have to take over for me."
Lenny smiled, but then her smile turned downwards. "I'm sorry about those awful things I said to you when I was… under."
He shook his head. "Don't apologize. That wasn't you."
"I guess your right." She shrugged. "Not being yourself… it was horrible. I could see everything happening, hear it all too. But I couldn't do anything. I was trapped behind this weird, unbreakable glass, that I couldn't get to. Well, until you came to get me." she said, looking at Levi.
Levi smiled. "I'll take that as a compliment." He laughed a little. "I'll make sure to stay away from those creatures as much as possible."
Lenny smiled. "Please do. You getting hurt doesn't need to happen." she said quietly. She then went back to reading.
Levi nodded. He leaned closer to her, reading over Lenny's shouler.
Lenny looked over at Levi and smiled invisibly. She'd really grown fond of him.
Levi read carefully, trying to remember everything he was taking in.
Robin sat next to her, folding his hands neatly in his lap. He was horrible at this sort of thing and he didn't really know what to say.
Zoey tapped her feet a few times. "Why is this so awkward?" She asked finally, breaking the silence.
"Because I'm awkward?" Robin suggested. "Talking to people is difficult for me in the best of times, and I've never been in this situation before, so that makes it even harder. Though I'm not sure about you."
"Yeah, talking is kind of awkward for me too. And I'm pretty awkward myself. And a huge klutz. I will literally walk into a wall on accident……." She gave a small chuckle.
"Same! I sort of zone out while walking… and run into walls. And chairs. And doors. Pretty much anything. Even in my own house!"
Zoey laughed, filling the echo-y room with the sound of her laughter.. "Same here. And I trip over air and fall up stairs and–I'm rambling now, aren't I?"
"No, you can keep talking! I don't mind. Tell me about yourself."
"Okay umm…….I have a baby sister who is two months old, I have a brother who is fifteen, and another sister who is seventeen. She's the one who brought me here the first time. She and I built the hideout that I took you to. I had brain cancer, and finally got it permanently removed two weeks ago, but there always is a possibility that it could come back……I love animals. You already know that though. Blue is my favorite color, I'm kind of scared of hospitals, when I was ten……………………….." Zoey stopped, her throat closing up.
"What's wrong? You don't have to tell me if it makes you uncomfortable."
Levi began humming as he read. "I hurt myself today…to see if I still feel…I focus on the pain…the only thing that's real…" He sang quietly. It was his favorite song, but the lyrics were sad and he didn't want to worry Lenny.
"No, no……umm…….when I was ten……………..when I was ten……………..my–my grandfather passed away." Zoey bit her lip, holding back a sob.
Robin wasn't sure how he was supposed to comfort her. "I've… for a while, my family thought I was dead… after our house fire… and being taken to the island…"
Zoey looked up at Robin, silent. He had probably been through more than her. "I'm sorry. What I've been through must look like a walk in the park to you." You're so insensitive. Why did you even try to tell him about yourself?
"No… no, I've never experienced someone dying. Those boys on the island were horrible, but bullies are everywhere. Everyone experiences them at some point, and you probably have too. N-not that there's anything wrong with you! Just.. people are mean. The worst things happen to the best people, don't you think?"
