The dog slowed down, coming upon the source of the smell of blood. The canine bowed its head, beginning to lick at the bloody holes left in Cruz's head.

(welp…. there goes my lunch…)

The coyote was licking at…. a body? Pierre approached carefully, spotting chestnut locks, long limps… his heart froze. A cry tore itself free from his lips. He stumbled forward, bringing out his gun in an attempt to scare away the animal. No..

@KalamariCakes

The coyote yelped in fear, and ran away. As for Cruz, his lips and fingertips were turning blue. His eyesockets had bled a crown of red in the snow, left his face wet with it.
And, he was breathing.

@blue_topaz

Pierre collapsed on his knees in front of the man, his hands shaking. Tears were streaming down his cheeks as he lifted him up and took off in a sprint, panic threatening to overwhelm him.

@blue_topaz

Pierre ran until his legs threatened to give out. He held the broken body of his best friend in his arms until he was stumbling back into his own home.

@blue_topaz

Pierre set Cruz down on the floor, his eyes glued to his beautiful chocolate eyes– or rather, the awful lack of them. "I– I found him— In the woods by camp–" The whole story came tumbling out in a frantic rush.

@KalamariCakes

"Oh, God," Geoffrey whispered, "What did they do to him?"

Edonine ran off. She'd do what she coukd. "Get a doctor then, Pierre!" She called, fetching towels and bandages and whatnot

@KalamariCakes

Hospitals weren't around yet; people would just fetch their physician, which was the doctor who lived closest to them. Patients and doctors were usually very close friends )

@blue_topaz

(thanks, and sorry)

Pierre rushed to the door, forcing his burning legs to move. He returned minutes later with the doctor behind him, out of breath and even more afraid.

Jane blushed and leaned against John. "How much have you told him about me?"

"Mm, too much. But I trust him," John reassured his wife.

"John, this is Elizabeth," Peter introduced her.
"Hello, how are you?" she asked in a thin Irish accent.

@blue_topaz

Its ok! Lmao )

Edonine had gotten Cruz cleaned up the best she could, constantly keeping check of his pulse.

As the doctor worked away, Pierre felt utterly useless. All he could do was murmur prayer after prayer and hope that his hands weren’t shaking too much. April— He’ll never be able to see her again.

"Very well," John replied cordially, dipping his head to Elizabeh.

The doctor shooed Edonine off the Spaniard, feverish and abrupt in his movements. She stepped away as she was told, feeling particularly distressed.

Jane smiled cordially at her. "As my husband said, we are both very well, thank you." While the woman exchanged a few pleasantries, Peter nudged John.
"How does it feel to be a married man?"

Peter glanced over a few feet where Jane and Elizabeth were making polite conversation. "She's beautiful. You got yourself a good one, John."

A tear slipped down his cheek, which he wiped away almost angrily. He barely registered Edonine or Geoffrey— at that moment, his eyes were fixed firmly on Cruz.
