Tyler jerked awake, his hands clenched at his sides. He sat up and glanced down to see his hand twitching, sort of like a warning.
Mach’s stirred in her sleep, but didn’t wake, curling up tighter against Tyler.
Tyler gently removed her hands and leaned down towards her ear. “Stay asleep darling, I’ll be right back.” He whispered, kissing her cheek.
Macha’s eyes fluttered open. “T-Tyler?” she mumbled, dazed. She propped herself up on her elbow, rubbing her eyes.
“Go back to sleep baby..” He murmured, nudging her back down. “I just have to take care of something really quickly.”
Macha pushed herself up again. “Why? I’m not— what’s wrong?”
“Please just stay here.” Tyler said nervously, hiding his shaking hands where she couldn’t see them.
“Tyler. You cannot do this to me all the time. What’s wrong?” Her voice had shed its sleepy quality by now, becoming scared and apprehensive.
“I don’t want to hurt you again..” He whispered.
Macha furrowed her brow. “What— What’s happening?”
Tyler took her hand and looked down at it. “Just stay here..please.” He begged, standing up.
Macha blinked rapidly, rubbing at her temples and making no response.
“Please..” He said, gripping the door handle when he reached it, his legs almost giving out.
Macha waited until he’d left the room, flooded with worry, then got out of bed to follow.
Tyler gasped quietly and fell to his knees. He dragged himself into their guest bedroom and closed the door, breathing heavily and trying to stay calm.
Macha ran downstairs, looking around before realizing no one was there. Her heart pounded furiously as she fumbled for her phone, texting Morrigan ‘911. Come if I don’t text in ten minutes.’ before running back upstairs. “Tyler?”
Talk. Tell me something, anything. Tyler told her, his voice wobbling dangerously.
Macha pressed the side of her face against the door of their guest room, trembling all over. A tiny whimper escaped her lips before she launched into a recollection of his proposal to her.
Tyler held his hand against his mouth, tears beginning to stream down his face. You shouldn’t have to go through this..
She was crying too, shaking all over as memories flooded her mind. But she only continued, now recounting the story of their first date, her voice breaking into a million tiny pieces.
Tyler moved away from the door, wiping at his tears. I’m okay..I think.. He told her, slouching against the wall on the other side of the room.
“Are— Are you sure?” she called, balling her shaking hands into tight fists.
“I don’t know..” He replied, his voice shaking a little.
Macha’s phone dinged loudly.
MORRIGAN: ???
She ignored it, turning back to the door. “Can you— can you feel the demon?”
