(Sorry mom decided that I should do something..)
(Sorry I’ve been gone, been playing cards with my family(my brother, the one Jack is based off of) is going to be down there until he wins, which will be like midnight. My other brother and I always check our early, because there’s no hope.)
“Home….?”
(No worries!)
Rykah didn't answer. Instead he picked himself up and wandered off into the trees. While Rykah wandered he couldnt help reliving old memories… the first time he'd met his dad.. picnics with his mom and uncle Barron… he didnt want to be here… he didnt want to be alone..
Will got up and cautiously followed. “Hey, Rykah, what’s going on, man?” Will stood in front of Rykah, and put his hands on Rykah’s shoulders, stopping him.
Rykah looked away.. avoiding Will's gaze.. "this is my home… " he said softly.. trying not to cry… "and I dont want to be here… cause being here means being alone…"
“Look at me.” Will said.
Rykah looked at him. His eyes clouded.
“You aren’t alone. I’m here, okay? You aren’t ever going to be alone.” Will said, his greatest wish at the moment to rid his best friend of the look he had.
Rykah nodded slowly… "but you have a family and a home to get back to.." he said sadly..
“I’ll stay with you as long as I need to.” Will said, itching the pull the other kid into a hug, but was slightly afraid that the shaking kid would melt away if he tried.
"You might not have a choice….." said Rykah wishing this had never happened…
“Why not, Rykah?”
"My magic…" rykah tried to think of a way to explain.. "I can open a portal to another world… but I cant control which one… which means.. we might never be able to make it back to your world…" he said unable to look at Will..
Will felt a lump rise in his throat, but ignored it as he looked at the terrified Rykah. “It’s alright. I have a part of my family right here, it’ll be ok.”
Rykah nodded slowly.. knowing that it really wasnt ok as he pulled away from Will and stumbled off into the forest.
Will followed quickly, making sure to keep his hand on Rykah’s arm.
(I'm giving myself a bad case of the feels here… and yet I dont regret what I did to this child …)
(I know, I feel so bad for the kid….)
Rykah eventually came to a faint pathway marked only by the fact that it had been traveled many times in previous years… he walked slowly but kept going for a long while, he didnt bother to even watch where he was going, since he knew every inch of this island by heart.. eventually the trees broke away and Rykah kept going, walking straight to the very edge of the floating island, a point overlooking the black landscape below.
(Oh you havent seen the half of it yet)
“Rykah….” Will said, slightly afraid the other boy was about to do something impulsive.
Rykah simply sat down. Watching as the landscape below changed as the island moved. Soon it revealed a city, one that was vast, incredibly large and complex. But completely abandoned and covered in the black ooze that covered everything…
“Rykah…. what?”
"I think that was veris city.." said Rykah quietly. Watching as the island cast a shadow over the pitch black landscape.
Will say down next to him and carefully out an arm around Rykah’s shoulders.
Rykah laid his head on Wills shoulder as he watched the world beneath them go by. Tears coming as he watched.
Will just kept his arm where it was, squeezing the kid’s shoulder. He hoped he could just be there for Rykah, wishing that he could just bring Rykah home and they could pretend this never happened.
Rykah eventually fell asleep, dried tears on his face since hed been crying.
Will wasn’t totally sure what to do about the boy sleeping on him. He shrugged himself out from under Rykah, catching him before he fell. He then laid Rykah out on the ground so that he could immediately see Will if he woke up suddenly. He put his hand on Rykah’s wrist, and went off into lalaland.
Rykah eventually woke up a few hours later. But only thanks to the creature nudging him. Rykah rolled over and looked up at the creature sadly, remembering that Will was still there with him. It was nearly dusk as Rykah sat up, his arm pulling away from Will as he did so.
