Lucas’s POV:

I fell silent before shrugging, and then wincing in pain because it hurt. I hissed.

“I… don’t know,” I managed to hiss out. “I think the other one was drunk driving. It was a red light and he sped right past it, crashed into my car.”

Truth to be told, it wa just a frenzy that I didn’t exactly know what happened. All I knew was that there was a red light and that guy had crossed it, crashing into my car in the other lane. I didn’t know why I got off so nicely, considering it was a terrible crash, but I was grateful.

Just then, the doctor came inside.

Eden’s POV:

I threw up on an empty stomach. My stomach lurched as it emptied its contents, my throat burning, my eyes stinging.

I hated the feeling. I hated throwing up.

After what seemed like hours, I finally stopped. I took deep breaths, trying to calm myself down before I stood up shakily to wash my face and mouth.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered to Sterling shakily. I didn’t even know why I was apologizing. Why? Why was I constantly apologizing? What made me want to apologize? Was I afraid Sterling would find me pathetic? Even after he keeps on reassuring me that he won’t, do I still do?

Yes. Because I’m afraid.

Because I care about him, I don’t want him to see these sides of me.

Because I like him, I don’t want him to feel like I’m not the person he thought I was.

Ashley’s POV:

I sighed and sat back in my chair when the doctor came in. Gosh, I wanted to make that guy pay. Whoever hurt my boyfriend should have to pay. He deserved it.

But I knew that wouldn’t end well. It would only end in more pain, and we didn’t need that.

Sterling’s POV:

I stood behind her and rubbed her back gently. “It’s okay, E. I don’t mind. I wanted to help you.”

Eden’s POV:

“That’s… the worst I’ve felt…” I admitted quietly. I knew I should stop. I knew I should shut my mouth and keep it in, because there was no point, there was no need to ramble and spill what I was feeling, but I couldn’t find it in me to keep silent anymore. “Even when Aaron dumped me, I didn’t feel as much pain as I did when I almost lost Lucas yesterday. I’m scared that I’ll end up losing him permanently.” Then I looked at Sterling in the eyes, and I knew desperation was clear on my face. “Promise me you’ll be careful. Promise me I won’t have to see you like that.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Sterling's POV:

I gently took her face in my hands and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. "I promise you that I will do absolutely everything in my power to prevent that. I don't want you to have to go through that again," I murmured, rubbing circles into her cheeks. "Promise me the same, please."

Eden’s POV:

I couldn’t muster up words, so I simply nodded, wrapping my arms around Sterling’s neck, resting my head against his neck and breathed him in.

It was like a refresher—Sterling was a refresher. It was baffling how safe and different I felt in his arms. It was different to when my brother or even my father hugged me. And I loved it, every second of it.

I pressed a soft kiss to his neck, not knowing where the courage came from, but I wanted him to know just how much I appreciated him. Even if he was just holding my hand, he was doing so much for me. And I appreciated it, every little gesture to the biggest of things he’s done for me. And of course, I didn’t want to kiss him with my vomit-breath, so I stuck to a simple kiss on the neck.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Sterling's POV:

If it were any other time, I would have made some suggestive joke whe she kissed my neck, but today? Today I simply tightened my grip on her and kissed the top of her head.

"I promise that I will never leave you, Eden McArthur. Not if I have a choice," I vowed softly.

Eden’s POV:

My head still in his neck, I let my arms wrap around him as best as I could.

“You’re mine,” I said, my voice muffled. “I won’t let anyone take you away from me. You’re mine.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Sterling’s POV:

I smiled softly. She was very possessive of me, wasn’t she? Not that I minded. When it came down to it, I was also incredibly possessive of her. I didn’t want anyone to touch her, or even look at her, really, in a way that only I was supposed to.

“And you, sweetheart, are mine. Don’t let anyone look at you the wrong way. Or else I’ll have to make sure they don’t do that again,” I murmured, placing a soft kiss to the top of her head.

Eden's POV:

Sterling and I stayed that way until a woman came inside with her baby. We immediately left the bathroom, and although I threw up, I did feel better after doing so.

We returned to Lucas's room where I scolded Luke and told him to be more careful. I won't get into many details, but let's just say Luke wasn't as cheeky as he was when he woke up. Afterward, mom and dad showed up. It was pretty much a happy reunion. Luke got some scolding from them, too.

"Why don't you guys go home now?" Lucas asked, raising an eyebrow. I shook my head, and so did Ashley. Luke sighed. "Listen, it's getting late and you guys have school. Come see me after school."

I wanted to protest, but something Lucas can be really stubborn.

"And make sure to eat something," Lucas added. "All of you. Jeez, you look horrible."

I rolled my eyes.

"And whose fault is that I wonder?"

Lucas simply grinned. Soon, we were on our way home. My parents, of course, had to head back to work. It was a little frustrating that they couldn't stay a while longer, but their work demanded their attention. I wanted to ride with Sterling, but I brought my own car here and I didn't want to leave it in the hospital.

(Should we do the other thing we had planned, now? Since they’re going back to school?)

(Yup!)

@Imperfect_Autumn group

(Okie doke!)

Ashley’s POV:

I knew I had looked like a mess, and when I looked at myself in the mirror when I got home, I knew I was right. There were dark circles under my eyes and mascara trails down my cheeks. My eyes were still a little red and puffy, but that went away after a while. The rest was easily fixed with a little makeup and water.

Once I was finally ready and free of any signs of bawling my eyes out, I hopped in my Jeep and headed to school. I definitely didn’t want to be there at the moment, but I knew I had to. No matter how much I wanted to go back to Lucas, I had to go to school.

Deleted user

Eden's POV:

I washed the second I woke up the next morning, trying to hide any signs of weaknesses. If you were me in my school, you'd definitely want to do that, too.

Anyway, when I arrived at school, news of Luke's accident had already spread in the school. There were whispers and gossips, and I mostly ignored them.

Once I found Ashley, I walked towards her but stopped when I saw her with someone else. I narrowed my eyes.

Third Person's POV:

Once Lucas was 'out of the way', Jude didn't have anything holding him back from pursuing Ashley. He was rich and definitely more attractive than that McArthur. So what if he could dance? What did that prove anything?

Jude made his way towards Ashley, an arrogant smirk on his features.

"Good morning, Ash," he grinned, waving at her, using the nickname only Lucas called her with.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Ashley’s POV:

I glanced over my shoulder as I heard someone call me. It was one of Lucas’ friends, but… Wyy had he called me by the nickname I only allowed Lucas to call me by?

“Please don’t call me that. I only let Lucas call me that,” I said, giving him a small, quick smile as I finished gathering my things together. “Is there something you wanted?”

Deleted user

(Cue the cringe. I’m not good with this as much as I’d like to be.)

Third Person’s POV:

Jude quirked an eyebrow, a frown on his features.

“Right, that guy,” he rolled his eyes. “What’s so good about him? Is he that good-looking to you? Listen, I’m way better than him. I can give you much more than he can ever do for you.”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

(Lol. Don’t worry about it. That’s how I feel writing Sterling.)

Ashley’s POV:

I closed my locker and spun around to face him. “Excuse me? He’s my boyfriend, thank you very much. And he’s clearly a much better person than you are if you just go around slandering people like this.”

Deleted user

Third-person's POV:

Jude's eyes narrowed as the insult slapped him right across the face. Fuming, he snatched Ashley's wrist, holding it tightly.

"What did you say?" he hissed, clearly insulted.

(Dude, you're being stupid right now.)

@Imperfect_Autumn group

(I And all of my characters would like to agree. Especially Ashley.)

Ashley’s POV:

Who did this guy think he was? He had no right to grab me like that.

“Let go of me,” I demanded, glaring at him. “Right now.”

Deleted user

(Mine, too. -.-)

Third Person's POV:

"And if I don't…?" Jude's smirk widened.

(Then you'll get punched in the face by Eden!)

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Ashley’s POV:

“Then you will most likely regret it. You do know who my best friend is, don’t you? And you do know that I’m dating her brother? Who was in an accident recently? I’m sure she’d love to take her anger out on someone,” I reminded him with a shrug.

Third Person's POV:

Jude's grip loosened before he tightened it again.

"Do you think I'm afraid of your little best friend? What's she going to do?"

Deleted user

Eden's POV:

Sometimes I wondered why people were oblivious. This guy was clearly way up in his ego, thinking he could challenge my best friend, insult my brother, and get away with it.

"Why would I be scared of her?" The idiot scoffed, still not letting go of Ashley. "Like I said, what's she even going to do?"

"Why don't you let her go and find out?" I finally spoke, my voice cold. The guy froze, his grip loosening on Ashley. "You've clearly got some nerve… Insulting my brother, attempting to hurt my best friend…"

I looked across at Ashley, staring at her straight in the eyes.

"Did he hurt you, Lee?" I inquired, rubbing my fist.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Ashley's POV:

I smiled. That was the Eden I knew and loved. My best friend was certainly one of a kind, that was for sure.

"I mean, other than his squeezing my wrist, I'm fine," I assured her with a shrug. "I'm just annoyed that he thinks he can talk about Lucas that way."

Deleted user

Eden's POV:

I looked at the guy with obvious disdain, clicking my tongue in annoyance.

"If I ever see you again…" my voice dropped to a cold whisper. "If I see you ever look at Ashley, even talk about her, I will break you down piece by piece. I'll make sure you suffer every second of having your life destroyed right in front of your eyes. Do you understand me?"

He didn't answer.

"Do you understand me?"

He finally nodded, his fear clear on his face before he ran. I turned to the rest of the crowd, my eyes burning with fury.

"The same goes for you," I hissed. "Think about messing with my people and I'll ruin you."

Deleted user

Eden’s POV:

I sighed, rubbing the back of my head.

“Always there for you, Lee,” I said in reply. “I wish I could have punched him at least once.”

I shook my head.

“Have you seen Sterling? My phone’s out of battery,”

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Ashley's POV:

"Nope, not yet. I'm sure he'll show, though. Do you want to call him on my phone?" I offered, pulling my phone out of my pocket and holding it out for her.
