Macha nodded and curled up tighter, letting out a soft sigh, before long, her exhaustion overtook her, and she slipped into a slumber peppered with twisted nightmares.
Tyler made them some breakfast, glancing towards the stairs every so often, just in case.
Macha awoke later, eyes snapping open. She pushed herself up into a sitting position, her chest heaving as she took in her surroundings. Slowly, she relaxed. She was okay… just another nightmare.
Tyler finished the food and went upstairs to tell her, frowning a little when he saw her sitting up. “You okay?” He asked, walking towards her.
"Nightmare.." she whispered, half to herself, attempting to scrub her mind clean of the horrifying images.
Tyler pulled her up gently into a hug. “Try to focus on something else..” He said quietly, rubbing her back gently.
Macha relaxed into his hand, but the prolonged touch soon became too much for her and she pulled away, hands trembling ever so slightly. "This– This is why I don't sleep."
“I’m sorry..Is there anything I can do to help?” Tyler asked, drawing back a little from her.
Macha pressed the heel of each her hands to her temples, eyes fixed to the sheets in front of her. She took a few shaky breaths in, trying to calm herself. "I'm fine, I'm fine."
Tyler reached out a little for her but decided against it, not sure if she wanted to be comforted or if he would just make it worse.
"I'm sorry…" she whispered, finally meeting his eyes again. "A lot has changed in the past year…" Her eyes landed on the plate he'd brought up. "Thank you.."
“I know..it’s my fault..I’m sorry..” He said, looking down.
"You came back. And that's– that's the important thing." Macha reached for the plate. "Did you eat?"
“Yeah..while you were sleeping. I didn’t want to wake you up.” He said, leaning up against the wall.
"How long have I been asleep?" She cautiously picked up an apple slice, studying it as if she was almost afraid to put it in her mouth.
“About an hour or so.” He replied, his eyes roaming around, studying the features of the room.
"Not too bad, considering…." She trailed off, taking a tentative bite of the apple, then another.
“Yeah..at least you got some..” Tyler replied, picking up a small box that was on the dresser next to him. The box that had held Macha’s wedding ring.
(wait she's wearing it on her finger)
(No I meant like it held it before he proposed)
(Sorry that wasn’t clear)
(ohh sorry, my bad)
Macha's eyes followed his. After a pause she spoke. "Do you remember it? The proposal?"
(It’s okay :)
“Yeah..” Tyler smiled down at the box, turning it over in his hands slowly. “I was there yesterday, before I found you..”
Memories rushed to the forefront of her mind, replacing images of mouths dripping blood, of Tyler’s broken body on the ground. She smiled softly.
“Your hair..it was longer.” He realized, glancing over at her. “You’re just as beautiful as you were then, if not more..”
Her cheeks went pink as a warmth spread through her chest— for the first time in a while, she didn’t feel cold or numb. She was exhausted, but not emotionally so. “I love you…” she whispered shyly, daring to look him in the eye.
“I love you too..” He replied softly, looking up at her with a small smile.
(G’morning)
Leaning back against the headboard, she ate another apple, cheeks still pink. “I’m so glad you’re back…”
(Morning. How are you?)
“I’m glad I’m back too..” Tyler said, setting the box back down gently, still smiling a little.
(Better because SNOW DAY I don’t have to go to school)
“Come here,” she murmured, patting the spot beside her. “You still haven’t told me much about where you’ve been.”
(Ahhhh that’s not fairrrrrr)
Tyler sat down next to her, slipping his arm around her shoulder. “What else do you want to know?”
