Sebastian let the subject go, gathering that she didn’t really want to talk about it. “Milk— if that’s okay.”
Sebastian let the subject go, gathering that she didn’t really want to talk about it. “Milk— if that’s okay.”
"Good choice," Devon chuckled, moving to the fridge and grabbing the milk from it.
She chewed on her lip as she heated up enough milk for two mugs, hoping he hadn't gathered where her awkwardness was coming from. She just had no idea how to deal with the odd feeling rooted deep in her chest, the one she got whenever she saw him playing with Layla, or whenever he helped her with something for random reasons, or… That day she broke down in front of him, and he didn't ask questions or make fun of her, but he was simply just there for her.
“How have you been?” he asked to fill the silence, leaning back against the counter.

“How have you been?” he asked to fill the silence, leaning back against the counter.
“Pretty good,” Devon answered, taking a deep breath and turning to face him with a small smile. “What about you?”
Sebastian considered lying but decided against it— this was Devon. He trusted her. “I’ve been… I dunno, honestly. Good and bad.”
Devon frowned a little, chewing on her lip. “I’m sorry, Sebastian… Is there anything I can do? Do you want to talk about it?”
"Hey, I'm not about to ruin Christmas Eve." He gave a smile halfway between wry and genuine. "Anyways, is there anything I can help with before your parents get here?"
“Sure… Could you check the ham? Just stick the thermometer in it,” Devon asked, shooting him a quick smile before checking the milk for the hot cocoa.
Sebastian did as he was told. "I think it should be cooked soon.."
Devon nodded as she poured milk into two mugs, then stirred the hot cocoa mix into it. "Wonderful. Thank you. You're hot chocolate is ready if you want it," she said, turning to hold out the mug for him.
"Thanks," Sebastian told her, accepting the mug with a warm smile. "Excited?"
That smile… My word… I like it when he smiles…
Devon blinked, clearing her thoughts, and smiled back just as warmly. "Yes, very. And nervous, too… My parents haven't really been here much since I moved," she admitted quietly before taking a tiny sip of the scalding hot drink in her hands.
Sebastian mirrored her movements, offering another comforting smile. “I’m sure it’ll be fantastic. Don’t worry about a thing.”
"Unfortunately, I don't think I can help it," Devon chuckled dryly. She sighed, looking down into her mug. "We went through a really rough patch a few years ago… Our relationship is just beginning to mend… So it's hard."
He has trouble with his parents, too. Your problems are hardly able to be compared to his…
Devon chewed on her lip as she had the thought, then took another burning sip of hot chocolate. "Sorry. I know you don't have a good relationship with your parents, either…" she murmured, not daring to look up at him.
“Don’t apologize,” Sebastian told her firmly but kindly. “Just because I have problems doesn’t mean you don’t either. For all I know, you could be worse off than me.”
Devon stared down at her mud for a moment longer, then took another sip of her drink. She glanced up at Sebastian and nodded slowly. "Okay. I… Thank you…"
Sebastian gave a loose shrug. “No need to thank me.”
“Well… There is, actually. You’ve been a really good friend, Sebastian, and I’m thankful for that,” Devon said softly, glancing up at him as she sipped on her hot cocoa.
Sebastian’s cheeks reddened, which he attempted to hide by taking a sip of his cocoa. “Well, you’ve been mine. I— I should be the one thanking you.”
Devon smiled into her mug, hoping she just looked flushed from the heat of the drink. “How about we both just agree that we’re thankful for each other?” she suggested quietly.
“Sure,” he agreed quietly, swallowing another delicious mouthful of his cocoa. He set the much down on the counter and raised his hands to his cheeks, trying to warm them up.
“Are you cold? There are blankets on the couch if you want to use one. You could take your cocoa over to the living room and sit down if you’d like,” Devon suggested, nodding toward the room.
(Omg can Sebastian turn into an adorable blanket burrito in front of Devon)
“If that’s okay with you,” he said carefully, tugging at his stiff collar.
(Lol. Definitely. That’d be cute.)
Devon smiled gently and nodded. “Of course. Please, feel free to sit wherever you like. I don’t mind.”
(Ey Great
How are you today?)
“Thank you,” he answered with a shy smile.
(CAN THEY SHARE A BLANKET)
(I’m good. I really don’t want to go to work in a bit, but that’s normal. You?)
“I’ll join you over there in a moment. I’m just going to do a bit of cleaning up in here,” Devon said with a small smile. She took one last sip of her drink before setting the mug down on the counter.
(As much as I love that idea, I’m not sure Devon would really do that yet. If they were really really close, like practically dating close, she probably would then. Soon, I promise!)
(Oof
I’m good)
(Understood, Sorry)
Sebastian nodded and slipped back into the living room. He searched for a few minutes before locating a blanket and wrapping it around his cold body.
(I’m glad you’re good!
Don’t apologize. I totally understand why you’d want that to happen. I do, too! She’s just very touchy about… um, touching… lol. I swear that was not intentional…)
Devon finished up wiping the counters and island down before picking her mug back up and making her way out to the living room. When she saw Sebastian wrapped up in a blanket, she chuckled softly, grinning at the sight.
“You look like a human burrito, Sebastian,” she teased as she sat down on the couch and wrapped a blanket around herself.
