The first thing she heard were meows before she saw the two familiar cats. "Yes hello my little ones, I'm home."

Sterling smiled at the cats as he set his things by the door and closed it behind them. "Your cats are adorable."

They circled his legs, looking up at him before purring. "Aww, they like you. Or they're just hoping if they charm you enough, you'll put me down."

"Well, that's up to you. Do you think you can move around without my help now?" Sterling asked, glancing over his shoulder at her.

"Mmm, I don't know. The couch is over there, you can just put me down like an oversized throw pillow." She chuckled. The apartment was small but very pretty. There was a couch and a small loveseat in the corner by the window she adored with a couple plants, a rug and coffee table, and a bookshelf, stuffed full with books and papers.

Sterling glanced around with a smile, taking the apartment in. “All right, if you don’t mind,” he chuckled, making his way over.

The cats followed, still meowing. "Yes yes, I know. I'll be down in a minute." She chuckled.

"They're really persistent, aren't they?" Sterling mused, his voice holding a bit of laughter.

"They want to cuddle with Mom and you're stopping them from doing that so they're meowing at you to put me down."

"Hey, guys, what if I want to keep her, huh? Maybe I'll just carry her to her bedroom and lock you out," Sterling joked, looking down at the cats.

"That sounded kinky." She chuckled. "But that wouldn't stop them. They'd just keep meowing until someone opened the door."

"Mm, I'm fully aware of how it sounded," Sterling chuckled, finally setting her on the couch. "But, fine. Have at her, cats."

They leapt up onto her, resting on her stomach, purring. She chuckled and pet them slowly. "Happy now ya little complainers?"

Sterling laughed gently and sat on an armrest. "They certainly look happy."

Nyx looked up at her, glowing green eyes being the only way to differentiate her from the darkness of night. Storm's hazel ones stared at Sterling, almost curious.

"So did you name them, or did you get them with their names?" Sterling asked, reaching a hand out to the cats for them to smell.

They sniffed him before nuzzling into his hand. They liked him. "I named them. Nyx is obviously named after the goddess of night and Storm is based off his gray color and mood most of the time."

Sterling hummed and pet the cats. "They're nice names. Very fitting."

"He's always grumpy. Aren't you, Stormy?" She rubbed the cat's head with a chuckle as he purred almost in agreement.

"Ah, yes. He looks very grumpy right now," Sterling chuckled, scratching Nyx behind her ears.

"You can pick her up if you want. Nyx is very friendly. Just don't drop her."

"I would never dream of doing so," Sterling said seriously, picking the black cat up with care. He smiled and kissed the top of her head before getting her settled.

She purred, meowing sweetly. "She really likes you. Storm takes a bit more time to warm up t people." She pet the gray cat that remained on her stomach slowly.

"She's a nice cat," Sterling murmured as he continued to pet the cat.

"Actually, it's about time for lunch for these two. Considering they we're meowing so much, Mark hasn't been in today."

Sterling clicked his tongue. "All right. I suppose I'll have to set you down, then, right Nyx?"

The cat just meowed, looking up at him. "The number of times I've tripped over her at 3 AM isn't even funny."

Sterling chuckled and set the cat down on the floor. "I'll bet. She probably knows you can't see her, too, and she just thinks it's funny."

"I wouldn't be surprised." She set Storm down and the cats wandered towards the kitchen on the other end of the room. The tile floors were bright white and shining in stark contrast to the black cabinets and fridge. The marble counters looked like they'd never been used despite the things on them including a small stack of mail and a fruit bowl. "This place was a needle in a haystack. I'm just so glad I found it."

"It's very clean," Sterling mused as he followed her. "And it seems like your ankle is doing better."
