His lover seized him by the shoulders. "Woah, love.. Take a deep breath.." Edonine exhaled.
His lover seized him by the shoulders. "Woah, love.. Take a deep breath.." Edonine exhaled.
Pierre’s eyes darted around the tent as he inhaled shakily. “What—“
Edonine pressed her palm to his cheek. Moisture sparkled in her eyes, out of worry, "Are you okay…?"
Pierre blinked rapidly, the events of the dream crashing back down on him. “I’m fine.” It came out forced.
She studied his face. Pores, scars, the infantile wrinkles. Edonine pulled his head against her chest. Normally the softness of her bosom was there to cushion the contact, provide the nice warmth, but he could only feel the hard surface of tightly wrapped fabric underneath the shirt.
It was a long time before he spoke again. “Was I talking in my sleep?”
"You were.." Edonine whispered back. She drew a hand slowly up and down his back.
“How much did I say?” His voice was barely above a hoarse whisper.
"Telling your Maman to.. Walk away from the edge.." Edonine whispered back.
He squeezed his eyes shut, held his breath. “Oh.”
"Im here.." Edonine whispered, tracing his cheekbone. "I'm here…"
He could only nod, trying and failing to push back memories.
Edonine breathed out, began to hum to him.
He did his best to concentrate on her humming, keeping his eyes squeezed shut.
She brought her hand through his loose hair. Of which left oily and unclean, as was her own. Tis the tire of war.
He pulled away, averting his eyes. “I’m sorry.”
She turned his chin back to face her. "None of this is your fault.."
He shrugged, remaining silent.
"I…" She inhaled stiffly, trying to force herself to relax. It was good to open up. It built trust. "I had a hard childhood too, Pierre.." Edonine tried to console him. Behind her voice, the sound of gently laughing men in uniform gave a sense of home, all these men gathered for a greater good at the cost of their lives. A brotherhood between men unlike each other in every way– like Cruz and Geoffrey. Bailey and [(the french dude i forgot his name AGHH IM TERRIBLE)].
(Louis lol, and dw about it. Coincidentally also the name of Pierre’s older brother)
Pierre caught her wrists gently. “Edonine, you don’t have to worry about me,” he reassured her in a soft whisper. “And.. I’m sorry about your childhood.”
"W-well, Pierre, I'm trying to convey that you can trust me," Edonine spoke.
“And I know I can, of course I do,” he whispered back.
She leaned to kiss his cheek, and devided to say nothing more.
He clasped her hands in his, brushing his thumbs across her knuckles.
"Are you thirsty?" Edonine asked him quietly. "I can.. I can refill your flask, if you like, love.."
Pierre shook his head with a slight smile, tugging her to him. “No, it’s still half full. But thank you. Is there anything you need from me?”
Edonine settled against him, "Well, I wish I could wish away soreness." She quietly chuckled.
He gave a wry smile, tucking her up against his side. “Where are you sore?”
"Calves, shoulders, neck.." She sighed.
Carefully, he raised a hand to the spot between her neck and shoulder and began to gently massage it. “Better?”
