Sterling smiled down at her, sort of wondering if she wasn’t actually awake…

Her eyes fluttered open. "Mmm, morning love."

“Good morning. How was your rest?” Sterling asked softly.

"Depends what you call good."

Sterling blinked at her questioningly. “Mmhm… So, not great?”

"Not really."

“Sorry, sweetheart,” Sterling sighed, bending down to press another soft kiss to her forehead.

"He's not usually like that. I don't know why he lost his temper so soon."

Sterling sighed, looking back out the window. “Maybe he was jealous, Cassandra.”

"Jealous? Why? He has a girlfriend. Has for a couple years now. Niall and Julia seem so happy."

“Well, you’re beautiful. And it seems like every guy falls for you, and you somehow don’t notice it,” Sterling said with a shrug.

(If I'm ever not on after school from about 2:20 to 4:45, I'm at play practice.)
"Beauty isn't everything."

(All right, cool.)

“I mean, of course not, but that’s what a lot of guys fall for. If they’re real, though, they call for personality. Like your humor, no matter how dark or dirty or simple. And your sass, and how you get a sparkle in your eyes when you get that way,” Sterling said softly.

"Is that what you fell for?"

Sterling smiled at her gently. “I fell for all of you. Those, your looks, and much more.”

"Oh? What else?" She tilted her head curiously.

“I fell for your laugh. For that smirk you like to give me. The way you can figure out the clues so effortlessly, and because you are so smart,” Sterling listed.

She blushed lightly. It wasn't often she was complimented so she wasn't used to it. "Anything else?"

Sterling grinned down at her softly. “There’s so much more, but I’m not sure if I could put it all into words.”

"I love you." She smiled softly.

“Love you more,” Sterling said, kissing her cheek.

"I don't deserve you."

Sterling sighed and shook his head. “No, Cass… You deserve much more than me.”

"I dragged you into my mess of a life and career but you love me anyway. I don't deserve you."

“I couldn’t pull you away from that mess. You deserve someone who can…”

"Don't beat yourself up. You got there eventually."

Sterling have her a small smile. “And I chose to let myself get drawn into this with you, so you can’t beat yourself up about that.”

"Hmm…fine."

“Good,” Sterling chuckled teasingly. He sighed and glanced at the door again. “I hope she gets back soon…”

"She probably won't." She had a small coughing fit but no blood came with it.
