“All right, Cass… I hope I don’t have to do that, though,” Sterling said softly, brushing a hair out of her face.

She opened her eyes a little, looking up at him tiredly.

Sterling sighed bent down to lightly kiss her forehead. “I’m sorry I couldn’t do more…”

"What are you talking about? You did everything you could and that's more than I was willing to do."

"Well, I could have tried to keep you away from him better. You wouldn't have been hurt so badly if I had done that."

"Relax Sterling. You did what you could." She smiled a little.

Sterling smiled back slightly, placing a gentle hand on the side of her face. "Are you feeling any better?"

"Well I don't want to cough anymore so I think I've stopped bleeding."

"Good… That's good," Sterling sighed. "I'm sure you'll be fine…"

She smiled a tiny bit. "Yeah…"

"So… What do you think the clue meant?" Sterling wondered as he looked down at her with a soft smile.

"Can you ask me that after I stop dying?"

Sterling chuckled a bit. "Yeah. Sorry. I just… was trying to get my mind off the fact that the nurse still isn't here, and for all she knows, you're actually going to die…"

"Laura does that. I'll live."

Sterling let out a heavy breath and nodded. "Right. Of course. Yeah."

She yawned and let her eyes flutter shut. She was exhausted.

"I'll let you sleep, now," Sterling said softly, smiling down at her.

She hummed her appreciation and fell asleep.

Sterling sighed and looked out a window. It still looked like it was a nice day out, so the other college students were probably enjoying their hunt. He was content with just keeping Cass company while she slept, though, so he didn’t really mind being indoors.

Well, everyone else was having a good day. Not these two.

Yeah… No kidding. It had certainly been a roller coaster, so far. What else was in store for their day?

We're about to find out. She stirred slightly at the light filtering through the window.

Sterling glanced down at her, brushing another strand of hair out of her face. He smiled a bit and rubbed gentle circles into her skin.

She smiled a little at his touch. He gave her a sense of peace, of comfort.

“You’re gonna be okay,” he whispered, knowing she couldn’t hear him. “It’ll be okay.”

The bruises on her neck seemed to glow in the light.

Sterling sighed as they caught his eye. He moved his hand from her face to trace them, his touch feather-light, barely even touching her.

She winced slightly, those really hurt even at the slighest touch.

“Sorry, dear,” Sterling whispered, withdrawing his hand and going back to rubbing circles into her cheek.

She relaxed once again, her head tilting slightly, pressing into his touch.
