Haile sighed and caved. "Ringmaster's grandfather's sister died while she was running the place, and her brother didn't manage to handle it the way she had so he resorted to authority. That's just how it continued."

"Why did it become so horrible though?" Lia asked again.

"Well, use of authority just escalated until it became to his level. Also, it doesn't really help that Ringmaster hates children."

Griffin gritted his teeth. “Then How did we get here? Were we kidnaped, or was it legal.” In that split second, Griffin realized how he had gotten here. “You handed me over to him. You’re the only person who could’ve done that.”

Haile grit his teeth together. "Guilty."

Leo knelt down next to Haile. "You handed Griffin to this hellhole?"

Eli shook his head. "Why would you do that?"

Haile shrugged nervously. "I didn't know how to handle him. He was… too rebellious."

"Rebellious? Griffin?" Eli looked over at Griffin apologetically. "Sorry, but it's hard to believe."

Haile let out a rumbling laugh. "He rebelled against me, if nothing else. I didn't know how to stop him."

Griffin clenched his teeth, something inside of him exploding. “And Caroline? What did you do to her?”

(His sister)

"Caroline stayed with your mother until she died. She was then sent into the foster system."

Griffin clenched his teeth. “I’m eighteen now, I can become her legal guardian. How did the others get here?”

"Depends who you mean, exactly."

“Go through them all.”

Haile sighed. "Can't do that."

“Why?!”

"A little pact I have with my buddy." He nodded to the ringmaster.

Griffin picked up the gun and held it to Haile’s head. “And now?”

Haile grinned. "And you say you're not my kid."

Haile could clearly see the confliction and turmoil etched onto his son’s face. “Tell me about Eli and Ana.”, Griffin growled, hands trembling slightly.

"Don't know names. Which ones are they?"

Griffin pointed to the two with his free hand.

Haile nodded. "Ana was given to this place. Eli escaped his home and ended up here."
