Pierre cleared his throat awkwardly, his eyes flickering across her face.
Pierre cleared his throat awkwardly, his eyes flickering across her face.
A little closer now, he could notice a thin scar trailing from the edge of her left eyebrow and disappearing into her hair behind her ear.
He couldn't help wondering where it had come from, if the man that Delta had parroted had been the cause of it, but he knew he'd done enough prying for one day.
"Do you need any help with the chickens?"
"I would love some help," she looked up.
Time skip?)
(sure, to when?)
When he leaves?)
(sure)
Pierre allowed his eyes to drift around the quaint little room he'd been staying in for the last time, sighing as he buttoned up the top button of his coat. He took what little belongings he'd brought into the house into his hands and slipped from the room to look for Edonine.
He opened to mouth his speak, his lips moved with a manner if incapability to do so. "Very.." He whispered, didn't finish.
Jane was not a woman who took things slow. She closed the gap between them and gently let her lips brush his.
Edonine was sluggishly placing forget-me-nots into a vase. All day she had been distant and forlorn.
"Hey." He came up behind her, placing a light hand on her shoulder.
The woman turned her head towards him. Tucked stray hair behind her ear. "Y'know…" She inhaled slowly, "I think I feel better about you going. I've got a feeling," Edonine spoke.
He kept his eyes on hers, absently marvelling at the colour before pulling himself back to the present. "What may that feeling be?"
"I got a feeling you've got guardian angels," she spoke with the whispery grandeur of a southern christian mama. She took gentle hold of his suit lappels. "And that I will.. See you again,"
For some strange reason, his heartrate sped up. Carefully, he pulled her into a hug, afraid to embrace her too tightly. "I definitely hope so.."

Jane made the Lieutenant whimper with nervous anticipation. John held onto her shoulders for those moments, a protective gesture.
Edonine rest her head over his heart. It was nice to hear it beat, strongly without her help.
As if in a dream, he tightened his hold on her slightly, swallowing. "I'm going to miss you.."
She sighed slowly, "I'll miss you too.."
"But like you said, I have a guardian angel, right? I'll come back home." The words that flew out of his mouth shocked even him. Since when was this a home to him?
"Home," she echoed his word with a certain tone of cherishing, the same gentleness from a mother towards an infant. "Yes.. You'll come home.."
Home. In truth, he'd never considered the place of his childhood much of a home, food and laughter had been scarce for many years, and even when nourishment wasn't, neither his mother or father had tried for the barest of smiles. This house, what with its chickens and birds of paradise– and most importantly, Edonine– had become more of home to him than anywhere else he could think of in such a short span of time.
She lifted a sundried palm to his cheek. Rubbed her calloused thumb over his skin. There was no need to speak.
Pierre froze, his brain short-circuiting. He had stopped breathing, every cell in his body alert to every place their bodies touched.
She laughed a little. A sparing and delightful noise. "Are you okay..?"
The laugh, high and sweet, cut through his muddled state, freeing his paralyzed limbs. "I'm fine," he told her softly, offering a crooked smile.
She pressed her thumbtip into the dimpled corner of that lopsided grin. Her own lips split, and he watched the flicker–like a brief comet–of contemplation of a kiss streak under the skin of her expression.
And once again, he was frozen in anticipation of what she might do, his fingers stalling where they had been absentmindedly stroking her hair.
"Your friend is waiting," she reminded him in a subtle whisper.
Shaking himself, Pierre nodded and pulled away, his heart returning to normal speed. He paused with his hand on the doorknob, turning back to look at the woman who had cared for him. "Goodbye, Edonine. I'll miss you.."
