TUI. T. FREAKIN'. SUTHERLAND.
She has written the greatest series of books about dragons EVER! The writing is great, the characters are interesting, the dragons feel like actual creatures with their own distinct physiology, and the humans are little friends that no one can understand, but are kept as pets by some. She just started her second part of the series, READ WINGS OF FIRE IF YOU HAVEN'T!
My favorite author is Victor Hugo for his great characters and the ability to break off and write a treatise on humanity without losing audience interest.
James Patterson for his humor and range of books that he writes/publishes
Patterson has most of his books ghost written. Don't forget to give credit to the 'co authors'!
Stephen King is great with escapism and can make any situation seem terrifying.
Garth Nix has wonderful fantastical worlds, and he avoids a lot of common YA cliches.

Yeah I know, I just don't know any of their names. I wasn't 'forgetting'.
My second favorite is JRR Tolkien. Pretty much for creating the best work of fantasy ever written, besides creating all the fantasy archetypes we use today.
Heck, Tolkien CREATED the Dragon's Hoard trope! I attribute his works and Dungeons & Dragons to influencing my writing as a whole.
Yeah. I try to read Tolkien before I write, just so I can let it influence the way I write.
(Oh! I got The Fall of Gondolin from a library. It came out just this year!)
