Alison nodded silently, gently rubbing his cheek with her thumb. He looked exhausted. If she could just get him to sleep for a few hours, it would probably do wonders for him.

β€œLet’s go home, then, yeah?” she said softly. But, wait… Would they have to talk to Neo about it first…?

M opened his eyes and squeezed her hand gently. Her doubtful thoughts tickled at his ears.
β€œI can just leave a note on my desk. Let’s go home.”

β€œOkay,” Alison sighed, reaching up to place a light kiss to his lips. She moved to his side and wrapped him arm around him, letting a small smile take over her lips as she looked up at him. β€œTo home we go!”

M turned on his heel, laughing softly at himself. He almost forgot to write the note. β€œWe’ll go home in a bit. I need to write this note.” He plucked up the new pen and got some ink for it, then splotchily wrote out some random reason why he was away from his desk. He set the pen down into a cup and set his arm carefully on his wife’s head.

β€œMust you always do that, dear?” Alison sighed in mock seriousness, removing his arm from her head with a smile. β€œI’m not that much shorter than you.”

β€œYou are six and a quarter inches shorter than I,” M pointed out for the umpteenth time with a smile, replacing his arm on her head.

M frowned slightly. β€œBut I can’t use you as my chinrest. That would hurt my back.” He wrapped his arms around her, sighing softly as he hugged her. He missed her warm hugs.

M dipped his head over hers and bent over into the hug, sighing softly. β€œI bet you could find a way.” He squeezed her briefly before letting go.
β€œLet’s hug more at home.”

β€œI think I am too tall for you.” He laughed softly and looked at his inky sleeves and chest. He shrugged it off; he’d just walk home like this.

M chuckled and rolled his shoulders back. β€œI feel like I should be able to walk under thresholds without bending down. That is my only wish.”

M chuckled softly and glanced up to check if they were outside yet. They were nearing the front doors.
β€œIt is quite bothersome,” M agreed after a moment.

Alison went back to smiling at him. She was glad she was able to make him smile and laugh. To her it seemed that he didn’t get to do that often enough because of how much work he had to do, but Neo was his brother, so she understood why he did so much for him.

M glanced down at her, giving a slight grin. β€œI am assured your few weeks without me were okay?”

M smiled a bit, nodding. β€œEvelyn is nice. I think she’ll make a fitting queen when the time comes.”

M chuckled softly and pushed open the front doors, holding them open for her.
β€œHe will do it in his own time. Or Evelyn will propose,” M mused with a shrug.

M shut the doors behind him, gave a curt nod to one of the guards, and turned his attention back to Alison.
β€œIt would be very entertaining.” M smiled a bit. β€œBut proposing is very stressful.”

M nudged her as they made their way down the large marble staircase. β€œYou can’t blame me for such a thing. Nervousness is natural.”

Deleted user

M carefully avoided her gaze, though his smile was apparent. β€œI’m glad I proposed, too. Now, which way to home?” He asked once they reached the bottom of the steps.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

β€œLeft. And then right at the next street,” Alison directed as she turned in that direction. She slipped her arm through M’s as they walked, leaning into him slightly.

M held her arm close to him, curling their fingers together. He was careful to keep his stride short and slow for her as they walked down the street, then left.
