So, I want to introduce my main character for my story, but I can't think of any good way to do it. The first characters I introduced are going to be a one-time POV to introduce another part of the story. It started with them eavesdropping on a very important conversation by some strangers who are planning on killing one of their sisters. After it's revealed that it's his sister they're going after, the POV changes to her, the one who the strangers are planning on killing. I want some plot before the strangers attack her so I'm able to introduce a different setting and characters, but I don't know a good way to start off her POV without it being similar to the first characters. She's supposed to be one of the best fighters in the group ("Clan") she lives with, and she has a friend from a different Clan that she's typically with, even though her Clan has strict rules regarding friends in different Clans. Any ideas are helpful!

You can start with one of those "You probably wonder how i got into this situation" type, or start with the character having an inner monologue. Or if you are really out of ideas, go for a situation description. Just slam dat character on to the page and let it flow

well, you could also do the fighter scene where the character is introduced fighting or taking down the last enemy that they were fighting (for whatever reason). I mean, that's how I sometimes introduce characters (at least in the rps I've been in) but you could do it in your story, it would still work pretty good….I think.

Well, there are a lot of ways you could go about this. I actually have had this problem a lot in writing, but something that I have learned is to try to cut to the chase as soon as possible. Lingering too much on an idea irrelevant to the plot or characters can kind of cause a story to lag. When I say this, I mean that you should take your time when introducing your characters and setting, but don't try stuffing in random scenes that don't contribute to these introductions. Maybe you want to show that your characters are in a desolate setting and that your POV character is carefree to a fault. You could describe this character failing at a task while introducing the sheer emptiness of the region they're in. Basically, think of it as a presentation. It's your character's first impression, so why not show off one of their traits? Are they likable or dislikable? Laid-back or cautious? Sweet or coarse? I'm sure you'll come up with something engaging. But most importantly, remember what your story is and how you want it to be presented.

Thanks! I'm just an enthusiastic writer and reader, I wouldn't say that I have a lot of experience outside of what I make personally.

I'm currently helping a friend out with two of her stories, but a lot of my own stories are just concepts I'm messing around with at the moment and various short story series, as well as one work-in-progress book. I spent a lot of time studying writing and story structure online off of websites and blogs (K.M. Weiland has a lot of resources, as well as various grammar websites) but I also observe TV shows, books, and movies as guides as to what and what not to do. Really, I'm just a super obsessed reader, heh.
