I've been writing a dystopian story for the past like 4 years. I gave up for one of those years but I've decided to start it again. Anyway, i need to know if this makes sense or just sounds really stupid:
In this world, everything seems perfect. There's no poverty and very little crime. Jobs that wouldn't usually pay a lot and that no one wants are taken over by Waits(waiters/waitresses.) No one really understands where they came from but each household can apply for one and if they'd like can pay for more. At the first of every month, all the children who will turn 13 that month are gathered for a 'retreat' On this retreat they will find their P.A.T.H which is practically a series of test so that they can be carefully assigned to a job. After the retreat, everyone will return home and continue with their schooling which will now depend on your P.A.T.H results. Except for the 'Chosen' Few. It's unknown who and how many will be chosen but everything thinks it's based on intelligence and usefulness. It is but not in the way they think. A person is chosen if they are deemed "Useless" if they want to have a career that isn't useful (Like being an artist or writer) or if they would like to be in a relationship that wouldn't lead to children (Aro and homosexuals). They are all chosen and will be trained to be waits. The story follows Ava. A girl that just wanted to be an artist and instead was chosen to be a wait.

Dude it does make sense! There's so much mystery in it already, like I'm already wondering what they're gonna do to the waits, and how their government even works. Sounds like there's a lot of government secrets there. Is the plot gonna be like, Ava overthrowing the gov't, or escaping or smth?

@Spider-man

Yeah, she's going to join the peace-breakers along with her employer's daughter. The groups like super disorganized because it's secretly under the control of the government. I think I'm going to make this into multiple books and in the end, she escapes to Canada everything great except now she knows that the rest of the world knows what's happening and is just ignoring it. Oh yeah, the story takes place in America. They shut down and cut themselves off from the rest of the world after ww3. The government hiding the fact that they caused ww3 and caused the majority of the country to become unlivable.

@BlueRingedOctopus

(typical america cough cough) Oh so it's like a tragedy, cuz even though she escaped, the whole world won't do anything to fix itself? This actually sounds super woke!

@Spider-man

Thanks! I've been working in this for a long time and had a lot of pages but now I'm starting all over again. Plus before I didn't really have the ww3 or anything like that.

Good luck, man! I think it might be to your advantage that you're restarting after already making some material because that means you have more details and content in your wherewithal, and you sort of already went through trial and error phase. Your story actually reminds me of other dystopias like The Hunger Games and Flawed. I'd love to read it when you're done!
