Pretty much the title. I need little side plots or filler bits that aren't completely pointless. It is fantasy with all the basic races. I have the major plot points but no side plots or sub plots. It's a problem I've been struggling with for a bit and have tried to fix my re-plotting out my story. I can't seem to come up with side plots that don't seem stupid and rushed. Help.
I'm assuming that you have a main character and at least some additional characters, and that the main plot follows the main character quite closely. What you can do to add interest is to develop your additional characters. What are their motivations? What do they struggle with in the story? Brainstorm some ideas of what their motivations and flaws could lead to, and if something turns up that you find interesting or that really meshes with your main plot, go for it!
